The Quinns - all different skin shades, all with unknown fathers - live with their charismatic, beautiful, and tyrannical mother, Rozelle, in poverty on the fringes of a Georgia town where Jim Crow rules. Rozelle's children live in fear of her mood swings and her violence, but they are devoted to her. Rozelle pulls her children out of school when they are 12 years old so that they can help support her by going to work.

A Master Class in Narrating
Revisado: 01-08-25
Bonnie Turpin narrated the hell out of this book!!!! I am in awe the way she made the characters come to life!!! I will listen to anything narrated by her. The book is great but I was (as you can tell) impressed with the narrator.

The way Patricia R. Floyd narrates a book must be studied. This book kept me laughing. The story was excellent and the performance was superb.

I wanted it to be good
Revisado: 10-16-24
When everyone complained about the last few books before this one I still said that I will give this one a chance. In the words of Tyra Banks “I was rooting for you!” But this book was very disappointing. The story, the narrating both disappointing. Let the Winter and Midnight franchise go. Charter a new course with new characters because this ain’t it anymore.

Boo to AI Narration
Revisado: 08-15-24
This is a typical street novel. Very predictable. But that AI narration was terrible. Please don’t replace human voices that have tone and inflection with this crap

This book tickled me and I don’t know if it was intended for the reader to be amused or if I just have a different type of humor. But those twins cracked me up, especially that Fiona.

Yes Yes Yes
Revisado: 12-12-22
Whew! This book had my emotions in a chokehold. My stomach was in knots by the end. Well done. I’ve worked as a child welfare case manager and I was one who did my part. I did not play games with the lives of those children on my caseload. But the good ones leave because we are overworked and underpaid.

Why do black authors do this?
Revisado: 11-15-22
The narrator was awesome. It was a decent story. But I absolutely hate when the characters interact with the author. It’s so corny.

I would have given this review all five stars however the way the book ended left me with so many questions unanswered. In an effort to not spoil the book I will not say the things that were left unanswered for me.
