Slow but steady read.
Revisado: 11-22-24
Here’s a polished version of your review:
*The Christmas Party* by Catherine Croft is a story that starts off quite slow but gradually picks up pace. There are moments where the momentum dips again, only to pick up right at the end. Overall, it’s a good, quick read that keeps you guessing. I didn’t figure out “whodunit” until the very last moment, which made the ending all the more satisfying.
Happy reading!

Slow, but steady!
Revisado: 08-31-24
I noticed that the movie was coming to Hulu, so I decided to read the book first. It was a slow and steady read, a bit confusing at the start with so many characters to keep track of, but overall, it had a solid storyline. The ghost referenced felt a bit much at times, but they were essential for the backstories.

Historia
A Woman of Endurance, set in nineteenth-century Puerto Rican plantation society, follows Pola, a deeply spiritual African woman who is captured and later sold for the purpose of breeding future slaves. The resulting babies are taken from her as soon as they are born. Pola loses the faith that has guided her and becomes embittered and defensive. The dehumanizing violence of her life almost destroys her. But this is not a novel of defeat but rather one of survival, regeneration, and reclamation of common humanity.

This book will stay with you long after you have completed it! So good!!
Revisado: 08-12-24
I loved everything about this book! I was captivated by every aspect of this book—the rich history, compelling characters, and gripping storyline. The author’s vivid imagination and masterful use of language are unlike anything I’ve encountered before—truly riveting. The range of emotions portrayed throughout the book resonated deeply with both the characters and myself. This is a story worth revisiting, and I plan to read it again, this time with a deeper understanding in mind. Happy reading—you won’t be disappointed!

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Great storyline, and historical moments!
Revisado: 07-22-24
It took me until chapter ten to really get into this book, so many characters to remember! I almost aborted this book, but I am glad that I held on until the very end. This author has super-natural way of describing events that just draws you in, and the storyline was not predictable. Great read, and continued success!

Love this authors writing style. This is a weekend read. Easy & laidback!Loved the subtle plots, and the real depiction of sisterly rivalry and love. Really wished the recipe was included or added eventually. (Or a website to the spices) I would have definitely purchased, missed opportunity.
