Excellent all the way through

Good overall w/ plot holes and inconsistencies

On the heels of listening to Baby Teeth, I was excited about this one. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed… First with a couple of key inconsistencies- 1) the pronunciation of Hanna‘s maiden name should not be Jansen (hard J) but Yansen (it’s Swedish), and 2) her little bumble beast’s name is Scoog not Scog. Those were two key details that bothered me throughout the entire book. Also the format of the letters back and forth became a bit tired and almost led me to return the title. And finally ***SPOILER ALERT*** it was completely implausible that Hanna’s parents would let her babysit Goose, especially given her past, because they had visited her at the school when they told her they were having another baby. She was 10 when she left that school so that means if he was a toddler when he died, she couldn’t have been more than 11 or 12 when they let her babysit him. That just seems way too young and just not believable. How could a mother, whose daughter tried to kill her and was freshly out of a mental institution, let that daughter babysit her small son??? The end gained this book another star, but overall it seems like the two books are written by two completely different authors.

An unpredictable story that will hold your interest all the way through

The story itself was very intriguing and kept me guessing the whole time. It was unpredictable and well written. The performances were top-notch and easy to follow without being too drawn out. Great listen and I highly recommend it!

Felt like reading someone’s (somewhat) uneventful journal

There are a lot of characters to keep up with, and I didn’t even really relate to some of them until near the end of the book. I kept waiting for something to happen… But it really never did. By the time something did happen it was pretty predictable and blasé. I would tell my past self to skip if I could.

What’s not to love?

Just listen to it! It’s got romance, mystery, humor, rage, and heart-wrenching moments that will make you tear up. The performances were perfection. 10/10 would recommend!

Trust the process

I was not impressed with the plot initially, as it’s a bit flimsy and contrived. However, as the layers were peeled away the onion was not so stinky but actually kinda sweet. Worth the listen, but you have to trust the process.

PS - The female performer was giving anchorwoman, making it a bit tough to trudge all the way through.

Full disclosure: Didn’t finish due to assault and egregious storyline

Trigger warning: there is content right away that covers assault as well as violence of very personal nature. I didn’t realize that was part of the storyline or I wouldn’t have purchased the book. I suppose if you can get past that then maybe it’s worth a listen.
