Historia
Born in 1961 in war-torn Laos, Tswb’s childhood was marked by the violence of America’s Secret War and the CIA recruitment of the Hmong and other ethnic minorities into the lost cause. By the time Tswb was a teenager, the US had completely vacated Laos, and the country erupted into genocidal attacks on the Hmong people, who were labeled as traitors. Fearing for their lives, Tswb and her family left everything they knew behind and fled their village for the jungle.

Historia
Padre Pio of Pietrelcina is perhaps the single most extraordinary saint in the modern history of the Catholic Church. His heart was pierced. He carried the wounds of Christ on his hands, feet, and side for half a century. He communicated with his spiritual sons and daughters through bilocation and mystical perfume. He read the souls of his penitents. He offered his suffering so that others might be healed. He built one of the most significant hospitals in Southern Italy. Most importantly, Padre Pio wanted others to be redeemed. In Bret Thoman’s latest book, he has created a fresh, new ...

Reveals the Heart of the Saint
Revisado: 11-27-24
After reading several biographies of Padre Pio, this one stands out with a deep understanding of his heart. The author’s own
spiritual development was clearly impacted, not just by book knowledge, but by the saint himself. The virtual reading is OK, but I was bothered by the mispronunciation of some words, such as “charism.” In one section it was pronounced correctly, and then reverted back to an incorrect pronunciation, “chair-ism.” There were words also.

Historia
Adolfo Affatato is one of the last living spiritual sons of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. Recently translated into English, “Padre Pio and I” is the culmination of what he witnessed as he sat by the saint’s side for sixteen years. This is not a typical biography by a journalist, friar, or academic; instead, the author presents “the Padre” intimately and personally -- as a father figure who tenderly guided and directed him. This book is filled with riveting new accounts of the mystical side of Padre Pio: from the moment Affatato was called by name by Padre Pio out of a crowd to Padre ...

Reveals the Heart of Padre Pio
Revisado: 06-26-24
If you have already read multiple biographies about Padre Pio, and you know all the well known stories about him, this book will be a surprise. Hearing the firsthand, personal experiences of the author is amazing and reveals the true heart of the beloved saint, and how he has impacted the life of a man in the vocation that many of us are called to—marriage and family. The author himself tells the reader how Padre Pio advised and guided him to a Holy life, set apart but in the world. I will read it again and I am sure glean something more than what I already have.

Honest and Genuine
Revisado: 02-05-24
As a cancer survivor, mother of a child who is a cancer survivor, and daughter of a father diagnosed with incurable cancer at age 67 and then lived with it for 22 years before dying at age 89, this book says everything that friends and family members of those in cancer treatment need to hear. Especially liked the lists of what not to do and say, and what to do, most of all not to give advice or make pointless comments intended to be encouraging that are not encouraging at all, and to bring food and gifts and just be normal.

Historia
We live in a society where kids and parents are obsessed with early achievement, from getting perfect scores on SATs to getting into Ivy League colleges to landing an amazing job at Google or Facebook - or even better, creating a start-up with the potential to be the next Google or Facebook or Uber. We see software coders becoming millionaires or billionaires before age 30 and feel we are failing if we are not one of them.

Very Encouraging
Revisado: 06-13-23
The first three chapters of the book didn’t apply to me at all. It took me until 68 to remake myself into my true self. I struggled to let go of a regular paycheck. When painful circumstances finally caused me to give up the last weekend job I will ever have, I feel completely free to create and discover new avenues. This book made me glad to be where I have arrived and to embrace it.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

As soon as I began listening, this book turned into a binge read—could not stop. It is thoroughly honest and heartfelt. It made me love the Royal family in a different way, and to realize that their struggles are the same as ours, just a bit more complicated—especially by the press. To dear Prince Harry, I hope your life here among the Yanks will be fulfilling and satisfying. Welcome! (If I were your mom, I would be very proud of you.)

Historia
"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Honest and Beautiful
Revisado: 02-08-20
Enjoyed listening to James Taylor telling/reading his own story. He was honest and yet compassionate about himself and his dysfunctional family. Like what he wrote about children not being responsible for their parents emotional well-being. Identified with the North South struggle, being from both NC and MA also. Would like to hear the rest of story, from age 22.
