Historia
It's almost All Hallow's Eve in the year 1690 and accusations are flying in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony. The villagers are certain their healer Abigail is a witch, a crime punishable by death. Nathaniel isn't only the acting Chief Magistrate, but an expert in recognizing witchcraft. He ought to be—as a secret wizard himself. With Salem calling for Abigail's conviction, he knows that neither his magic alone nor his position will be sufficient to protect her. Oh, he believes her protestations that she isn't a witch. “Yet, Abigail. You are not a witch…yet.” Awakening her powers is ...

Salem Witch Trials
Revisado: 04-17-25
Creative setting and plot for a historical romance. Slightly steamy, but definitely not erotica. Good HEA especially for such a short book. The only thing missing was mention of her loyal cat.
Narration: New & amusing mispronunciation by VV- instead of “healthy baby” there is a “heethy baby” (or maybe that is a “heath-y baby.”)

The Baron's Ward is an entertaining and uplifting adventure story set in a medieval-like fantasy world. It is also included in the award-winning collection The Venturous Tales by Isabella Berdyna Zysk. Eustacia Rose, a mixed-race young woman, was orphaned at the age of eight and sent far away to a convent school. She believes that her father's cousin, Lord Eustace, the Baron of Galeva, wishes to cut off relations between them. Though he pays for her schooling for eight years, he never replies to her letters. At the age of eighteen, having completed two years as a teacher in the convent ...

Pleasant little story set in a believable fantasy world. Likable characters and a little bit of a moral.

More Highlanders
Revisado: 04-13-25
This is this is one of those fun Highlander-English romances. Both MC’s were likable. The Scots hero is determined and “braw.” The heroine starts out as a reserved English lady known for her perfect manners
and evolves into a woman who is in touch with her emotions & passions. The villain may have been a little too evil, making the story darker than necessary. I thought the story lagged in the middle with all the parties & balls, but it picked up speed after things started happening in the second half.

Three charming novellas
Revisado: 04-05-25
Each story was different with likable characters and a satisfying conclusion.
I especially enjoyed the first and third novellas.
The first story was very romantic. The“steamy“ scenes were especially well done, being both tender and erotic..
The setting of the third novella was especially interesting. The couple’s romance was Interwoven with glimpses of the diverse lives and backgrounds of people of African descent in Regency England.

My attention kept wandering
Revisado: 04-01-25
The premise was lively enough, but somehow it’s execution lacked “umph.” The hero started out forceful and decisive, but he faded away as the story progressed. The final crisis didn’t work well and the last 25% of the book seemed watered down and vague.

Historia
Lady Charity MacGalloway likes little dogs, long country walks, and summer cloudbursts, but she wants absolutely nothing to do with the Season or the pompous heirs trolling the marriage mart. Harry Mansfield is not only the town of Brixham's butcher, he's also a boxer, and he's about as far removed from polite society as any man can be. But when Lady Charity steps into his shop, she manages to take everything he thinks he knows about women of quality and turns it upside down.

#2 in the series, Chasity‘s story
Revisado: 03-18-25
I liked this book better than the previous one “A Duke by Scot.”
The heroine was strong willed and determined to do the what she thought was right. Her brother (the Duke from the previous book) showed a surprising lack of understanding, considering his unconventional marriage.
The hero Harry was likable and kind. It was easy to root for him to win Chasity’s heart.

The road to true love is made rocky with horse thieves, highwaymen, former fiances, and a very determined Bow Street Runner. "Melanie Jackson is a talent to watch." —WritersWrite.com With the letter breaking his engagement, Stephan Kirton's hopes for respectability and happiness went up in smoke. It was inevitable that his travels abroad and "interaction with the lower classes" would put him beyond the scope of polite society. That and he was born a bastard. Ormstead Park was a place for dancing and flirting, for drinking and gambling, and for less innocent sports. It was a place where he...

Unexpected humor, decisive heroine, amusing & unpredictable plot twists. No complexity to the characters, story wasn’t memorable, but it was entertaining.
VV was done in a different voice. It was better, more expressive than the usual VV.

His Grace, Martin MacGalloway, has well-earned the reputation as the most celebrated rake on the entire isle of Britain. Penniless, Lady Julia St. Vincent has no choice but to dress as a man and accept a position as steward to the Duke of Dunscaby. The more time she spends with the duke, the more difficult it is to ignore the flickers of passion in her heart.

Engrossing with a charming anti-hero
Revisado: 03-10-25
I wasn’t sure I’d like a romance set in the 1100s. My preferred genre is Regency romance which usually take place in the drawing room with an occasional trip to Gretna Green or flashback to the Peninsula. This book was more of a “sweeping” historical romance set in a number of different locales, with many interesting minor characters, and one challenge after another to overcome. It was totally engrossing.
The only problem was that I developed a tendre for the antihero, with his black hair, violet eyes, and seductive ways.
It was still a five star book, but the HEA made me a little sad.

Silly
Revisado: 03-10-25
The opening scene wasn’t bad. The rest was just plain silly.
The general silliness was enhanced by many anachronistic phases such as characters “hanging out“ or experiencing “the ultimate high“.
