Historia
Emma can be enjoyed as a charming love story, a detective story, and a comic and lively picture of English life 200 years ago. Austen's beautiful, clever, wilful but fallible heroine Emma Woodhouse believes she knows best. Perfectly content with her life she sees no need for either love or marriage, yet nothing pleases her more than meddling in the romantic lives of others.

Historia
In Catherine Lowell's smart and original debut novel, the only remaining descendant of the Brontë family embarks on a modern-day literary scavenger hunt to find the family's long-rumored secret estate, using only the clues her eccentric father left behind and the Brontës' own novels. Samantha Whipple is used to stirring up speculation wherever she goes. Since her father's untimely death, she is the presumed heir to a long-rumored trove of diaries, paintings, letters, and early novel drafts.

What a great story! I stumbled across this book and thought I'd give it a go. Boy, am I glad I did! Mystery, family heirlooms, writing, reading, books, authors, college professors and Brontes, oh my! I enjoyed this book so much I bought a hard copy and plan on reading it again as soon as it arrives.

Meh...
Revisado: 09-17-23
I saw so many pictures of the cover(s) of this book social media and I heard many people say it's such a great book. People often compare it to The Dead Poet's Society and as a Dark Academia must-read. I figured I'd love it but in reality, I thought it was just ok. As the story went on, I kept waiting for something more to happen, but I finished the book feeling like that something never came. The story is basically just a ton of chatter about college students doing drugs, drinking and killing a friend to cover up accidentally killing a stranger. It wasn't all that exciting to me. The narration was a bit challenging to get past, but after the first few hours you get use to the narrator's accent. I don't think I'd listen again or read it in a book form either. I guess it just wasn't for me.

Another Great Course!
Revisado: 03-06-23
While I agree it is odd to censor the cuss words in a course about censorship, I think there was only 3 cuss words in the whole course.
Maureen presents the information about banned books from a non-bias standpoint and invites the listener to form their own options on the books, although she does share her opinion on many of the books.
Wonderful listen and highly reccomended to anyone who wants to know more about banned books!

Artful reading-the way we read novels and short stories-is less about reading for specific information and more about reading to revel in the literary experience. Learning the skills and techniques of artful reading can improve your life in many ways, whether you're a fiction reader, an aspiring writer, a book club member, or a student. And the best part: These skills are not difficult or unwieldy; rather, they are well within your reach.

Historia
We're all familiar with the works of Claude Monet, thanks in no small part to the ubiquitous reproductions of his water lilies on umbrellas, handbags, scarves, and dorm-room posters. But did you also know Monet and his cohort were trailblazing rebels whose works were originally deemed unbelievably ugly and vulgar? And while you probably know the tale of Vincent van Gogh's suicide, you may not be aware that there's pretty compelling evidence that the artist didn't die by his own hand but was accidentally killed - or even murdered.

Wonderful Listen!
Revisado: 08-03-22
I learned so much from this course! I was able to catch it, well most of it, while it was still included in the audible catalog. I had listened to 45 of the 48 lectures when it was removed from the catalog. Regardless it is well worth spending a credit on this book! Robert Greenberg is engaging and hilarious and makes learning about music easy to understand and relates his teachings back to everyday things. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning more about music!
