Maddox Lovelace. The captivating football player I met in college. The one I only knew for a week. A week that was...life-changing. Until my phone rang, and I had no choice but to go home. I left Maddox a letter, putting my feelings on paper, giving him my number, hoping he'd call. But he didn't call. He never called. He got drafted into the professional league and lived like a king while I stayed home and struggled to stay afloat.

30+ year old, ACCOUNTANT and zero common sense
Revisado: 01-17-25
First the positive - the story is engaging and, while nothing spectacular, a good read to pass time, until ...
well the whole premise of the misunderstanding is so idiotic that after a few hours it started driving me crazy. What 30+ is so dumb to assume that the other side had only bad intentions because of no contact. Especially since, when she left the letter, she was unsure if it's going to reach Maddox. So if it was something they discussed early on when they met after 15 years I'd be OK with the story. But the misunderstanding keeps going and going throughout the book. It looks like the author just had no good plot so why not keep the ball rolling. I hate stories where grownups behave like pre-teens so I personally don't recommend unless you can look past this.

Historia
Living in a year around Christmas town has its drawbacks. The caroling, the decorations, the insanely cheery spirit, it never disappears. It's why I like to hibernate away in my cave - I mean housekeeping a healthy distance from the holly jolly spirits. And all was going according to plan until my nemesis, Storee Taylor, moved in next door to care for her Aunt Cindy. Without blinking, she turned my simple world into a real nightmare-before-Christmas, especially when she decided to enter the town Christmas Kringle contest - which she was determined to win.

I'm sorry it's over
Revisado: 12-22-24
I love the story and all the main characters. Holiday cheers spicy romcom (but much more interesting than a typical Hallmark movie) with a slight dose of drama, lots of laughs and fantastic performance. The fable format of the narrative read by Shane East (perfect choice) was a nice touch. This is one of those books where the audio version is waaay better than the classic read. Strongly recommend!

Guess who moved in next door? NYC’s top bachelor. And I’m not swooning—I’m cringing. He’s everything I despise. Grumpy. Arrogant. The neighbor from hell. The bigger bombshell? He’s a cutthroat hotel tycoon, now a major shareholder in my hotel. And guess what? He’s convinced he can charm me out of the rest.

I loved both characters. I loved the narration. The double epilogue is a nice bonus too. Strongly recommend and I can't wait for more in the series.

Grant Lasker is the first guy I fell in love with. The first guy I shared everything with. I thought what we had was perfect...until I found out I was just a bet to him. All the lavish gifts and attention were nothing more than tricks to fool me. Grant always wins, no matter the collateral damage. I left him without a second glance and rebuilt my life along with the walls around my heart. Fourteen years later, I manage to find a job that pays enough to keep my beloved grandfather in a private assisted-living center. There is just one problem....

Be ready - it's very different from the other in the series
Revisado: 09-03-24
This is a beautiful story but it's no romantic comedy. It's truly emotional and the back and forth maybe drags a little but the book overall is very engaging and the story is beautiful. Have your tissues ready.

Hi, my name is Bree Camden, and I’m hopelessly in love with my best friend and star quarterback Nathan Donelson (so is half of America, judging by the tabloids and how much the guy dates). The first step is admitting it, right? Except, I can never admit it to him because he clearly doesn’t see me that way, and the last thing I want is for things to get weird between us. Nothing but good old-fashioned no-touching-the-sexiest-man-alive platonic friendship for us! Everything is exactly how I like it! Yes. Good. (I’m not crying; I’m just peeling an onion.)

waste of time and money
Revisado: 09-01-24
I don't know how this book got so much hype, it's really subpar in the romance genre. The beginning has a lot of potential but then it gets progressively worse. Halfway through you just get tired of the same internal monologue repeated over and over. The heroin behaves annoyingly stupid. I can't believe someone would envision people in their late twenties so immature. It should all be placed in a high school setting. Don't bother.

The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn't exactly make a good impression. I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date. He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice. So I told him to mind his own damn business and went back to my miserable date. I couldn't help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.

the longest foreplay ever
Revisado: 06-30-24
I have listened to over 400 romance books so far. This is by far the winner of the foreplay. You can expect nothing happening until mid-book. But it's so worth it! The interaction between the couple is super engaging. I absolutely love both main characters. Maxine Michel is superb. She perfected meowing. Come on- MEUWING! You'd never know the difference. She's one of my favorite narrators and she didn't disappoint. I love her acting skills. There's not much male chapters here though. Love, love this book. Worth the money.

Dallas Barnes is tall, dark, and handsome. He's also scarred, rough, and broken down by burdens. A single dad. A widower. A lost soul. We found each other in the back of a dark pub. He brought the whiskey. I brought the bad decisions. He called it a mistake. I vowed never to speak to him again. That vow is broken with one test. Two pink lines have turned my life upside down. One night can change everything.

what an immature mother-to-be
Revisado: 06-28-24
I dropped the book halfway through. I feel sorry for the baby. Selfish, immature soon to be mother is a disaster waiting to happen.. I hate all the 'Im scared' excuses. I can understand that when a teenager becomes pregnant but a grownup woman? Becoming a mother is not a disease. Also what's with this whole 'I have all the right to tell or not tell the father'? yes he may become a deadbeat dad but he ALWAYS has the right to know. I'm tired of all those tropes of scared of consequences, self absorbed, whining women. bottom line - don't waste your time/ money, this book is nothing but annoying.
The one positive thing is the narrators did a good job.

Better than the first! (dark lure)
Revisado: 06-15-24
The story is an absolute gemstone of crime mystery. I lost my whole night - I couldn't put it down.
I don't like this narrator but I listened to her Dark Lure narration before so I knew what to expect and forgot about her narrative 'quirks' early in the book.
You don't need to read dark lure first - you are given the background story from the first book in a few sentences and the crimes are not connected. But I recommend that one too - it's great plus some of what's revealed in this book is part of the plot in dark lure so there are minor spoilers.
One really traumatic surprise for me is what happened to Ash, it may be a trigger for some (no spoilers). I love small town crime mysteries placed in Canada - I'm true crime fan and I know most of US procedurals so it's a nice change for me to learn how crimes are solved in Canada. there's romance but very very little sex (probably 10 sentences total and no specific sex scenes). It has a happy ending.

Great but beware - it's an emotional rollercoaster
Revisado: 06-15-24
I love the author's writing style and story development and this book didn't disappoint. While, for me, the ending was not so surprising (as a detective it would be my suspicion early in the investigation) it was still super engaging - a real page turner. The narrator is soso - she forgets to use male voice a lot so you need to get past this - personally it was very annoying but that's subjective. The plot is superb so if the narration is not your major reason to reject an audiobook it's worth spending the money.

not for the faint of heart!!!!
Revisado: 02-26-24
When I finished Shallow River I thought it was the darkest dark romance I have ever read, mainly because the author's writing is so absolutely realistic. I was wrong. This book takes the cake. The first part of the duet is kindergarten compared to the second. I've read probably around a thousand fiction books and the drak romance are always my favorite. This is a masterpiece but honestly left me traumatic. It's not that there are no books that have similar stories. It's just that her writing invokes your deepest emotions. YOU REALLY MUST READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! Regardless of all of these I loved it! (now I need romantic comedy to recover).
