Unusual story, Excellent narration
Revisado: 10-10-24
First, I could listen to Sam Claflin all dang day, but both narrators were excellent. I had no idea what the book was about before starting it, so I was a little surprised by the time jump but liked it. The beginning of the story was rather depressing, but it was a nice contrast to the world created after the time jump. Characters were nicely developed. All in all, I really enjoyed this one a lot!!

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 10-03-24
The story wasn’t bad, but the narrator was so very painful. She spoke every sentence as if it was a highly dramatic moment. Ugh!

I really tried, but I had to give up before finishing. The Virtual Voice narration was just too annoying. Sad, as I think I would have liked the story otherwise.

I feel like I’ve walked in Frankie’s shoes. This is a moving, painful, yet ultimately uplifting story of one woman’s experience as an Army nurse in Vietnam and the aftermath of her homecoming.

Great depiction of a mother with a family in mortal danger!
Revisado: 02-21-24
I was going to joke and ask why Kevin O’Brien hates mothers - they keep battling against horrific monsters out to harm them and/or their children. In reality, Kevin creates women who turn in strong performances under unthinkable pressures. Well-done Kevin! This story held my interest from start to finish, and the narrator did a great job with a large cast of characters. Can’t wait to read or listen to more of Kevin’s novels!

Creepy characters
Revisado: 01-26-24
As a mother myself, this poor mother’s experiences felt especially traumatic. Kevin O’Brien always keeps me guessing about who the “bad guy(s)” might be or who might be the next victim, and this story was no exception. The remote setting made everything especially creepy. I don’t read many thrillers, but I really enjoyed shivering to this one.

What the heck?!
Revisado: 12-01-23
I enjoyed the first part of the novel, although the narrator’s American accent was annoying. With around three hours remaining, however, the story went downhill quickly. It almost felt like the last portion of the book was written or edited by different people. Want some crappy characters? Here you go. Gratuitous sex scenes? Sure! Bizarre plot twists? Coming right up. Very disappointing.

Historia
It's nearly Christmas, Julia Devine's favourite time of the year. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.

Such a fun, romantic story
Revisado: 11-30-23
Awesome characters which show growth over the length of this adorable story. My only issue was the narrator. She did a great job with most of the characters, but I felt her presentation of Julia was off… like the voice was too old for the character. Otherwise a great read!
