Historia
Although eugenics is now widely discredited, some groups and individuals claim a new scientific basis for old racist assumptions. Pondering the continuing influence of racist research and thought, despite all evidence to the contrary, Robert Wald Sussman explains why - when it comes to race - too many people still mistake bigotry for science.

In The New Silk Roads, Peter Frankopan takes us on an eye-opening journey through the region, from China's breathtaking infrastructure investments to the flood of trade deals among Central Asian republics to the growing rapprochement between Turkey and Russia.

Empires and their replacement
Revisado: 07-02-19
This book summarizes the rise of a new Silk Road between Asia and the west and the rise of Asia to a power that in a short will
Replace the west. All one has is to look at the rise of South Korea to become an industrial behemoth. That scene is repeated in India, China and Japan. I enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.

Historia
Preet Bharara has spent much of his life examining our legal system, pushing to make it better, and prosecuting those looking to subvert it. Bharara believes in our system and knows it must be protected, but to do so, he argues, we must also acknowledge and allow for flaws both in our justice system and in human nature. Bharara uses the many illustrative anecdotes and case histories from his storied, formidable career - the successes as well as the failures - to shed light on the realities of the legal system and the consequences of taking action.

Historia
Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are the self-styled prince and princess of America. Their swift, gilded rise to extraordinary power in Donald Trump’s White House is unprecedented, unconstitutional, and dangerous. In Kushner, Inc., investigative journalist Vicky Ward digs beneath the myth the couple has created that depicts themselves as the voices of reason in an otherwise crazy presidency and reveals that Jared and Ivanka are not just the president’s chief enablers, they are, like him, disdainful of rules, of laws, and of ethics.

Historia
John and John Quincy Adams: rogue intellectuals, unsparing truth-tellers, too uncensored for their own political good. They held that political participation demanded moral courage. They did not seek popularity (it showed). They lamented the fact that hero worship in America substituted idolatry for results; and they made it clear that they were talking about Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson. When John Adams succeeded George Washington as President, his son had already followed him into public service and was stationed in Europe as a diplomat.

Limited horizon
Revisado: 05-31-19
The book concentrated on the presidencies of father and son, John Adams and John Quincy Adams. While the authors have a lofty aim, the vehicle is of limited interest.

Historia
In his earlier best sellers Guns, Germs and Steel and Collapse, Jared Diamond transformed our understanding of what makes civilizations rise and fall. Now, in the final audiobook in this monumental trilogy, he reveals how successful nations recover from crisis through selective change - a coping mechanism more commonly associated with personal trauma.

Not a good autobiography
Revisado: 05-28-19
This book which purports to be a study of upheavals is actually an autobiography of Professor Diamond’s. And I found the story not very interesting. Unlike his previous books which were very good, this one is so-so. Ok, it is interesting that he lived I 7 countries and learned to speak 6 or 7 languages. This is not unique, tough. I was unable to finish it.

Historia
The long-awaited new work from the best-selling author of The Invisible Bridge takes us back to occupied Europe in this gripping historical novel based on the true story of Varian Fry's extraordinary attempt to save the work, and the lives, of Jewish artists fleeing the Holocaust. In 1940, Fry - an American journalist - traveled to Marseille carrying $3,000 and a list of imperiled artists and writers he hoped to rescue within a few weeks. Instead, he ended up staying in France for 13 months, setting up an underground railroad that led over the Pyrenees, into Spain....

Fiction that takes license with history
Revisado: 05-22-19
I did not finish the book because I found the diversion to a homosexual relationship between Fry and Grant somewhat offensive. Fry did a lot of work to help the escape of the cream of Jewish intellectuals and artists from the clutch of the Nazis. We should be grateful for that.

I was unable to finish this book. While I have enjoyed all the previous McEwan books that I had read, this one began to generate anxiety as the lines between the robot (Adam) and the human (Charlie) began to blur.
