I like that the story moves along at a good clip. Things happen quickly and with this international team, hit like a sledgehammer. I’m impatiently waiting for the next Jack Trench adventure. Good job Mike.

Pedestrian for the most part
Revisado: 09-17-24
I know this wasn’t meant to be a thriller, but the book moved slow in places to the point of watching grass grow. It’s a capable little story but you won’t really come away moved. It did make me appreciate sitting down to dinner every night with its starvation stories.

Not expected
Revisado: 08-29-24
I waited a long time for this book to come out and was disappointed it didn’t match the intensity of the last one. It got downright boring in places. We can always hope for a rebound from Agent Pendergast.

A major new biography of J Edgar Hoover that draws from never-before-seen sources to create a groundbreaking portrait of a colossus who dominated half a century of American history and planted the seeds for much of today's conservative political landscape.

Hoover was complicated
Revisado: 08-06-24
Hoover loved his country, but had a myopic view of what the country was. He seemed to think it was only for white men who looked and thought like him. Everyone else should take a back seat and not complain. He wanted to maintain the status quo and anyone interested in changing it became his enemy. The King tapes must have been horrific if the author is right about what was said on them and would change, to a degree, the way I perceive King.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

That I miss Michael Crichton
Revisado: 07-14-24
I thought the story was terrible. Nothing in it was close to Crichton’s ability. Should have been buried with that great writer. Patterson is no Crichton and should not have tried. It’s almost as if they are trying to ring the last dollar out of Crichton’s name. I have never been a fan of the over dramatic narrator Scott Brock which made getting through the book a marathon of patience. I think I’ll pull out one of my old Crichton novels and reread it.

Historia
All the admirals in the US Navy knew Leonard Glenn Francis—either personally or by his legendary reputation. He was the larger-than-life defense contractor who greeted them on the pier whenever they visited ports in Asia, ready to show them a good time after weeks at sea while his company resupplied their ships and submarines. On the surface, with his flawless American accent, he seemed like a true friend of the Navy. What the brass didn’t realize, until far too late, was that Francis had seduced them by exploiting their entitlement and hubris.

The Navy as a criminal organization
Revisado: 05-24-24
Like most people I always thought of the Navy as one of most trusted and professional organizations on earth. This book paints them, the admirals that run the joint, as a bunch of over educated over sexed baboons. If half of this story is true the Navy needs to be dismantled and started all over again. The most senior officers in the Navy acting like a bunch of prepubescent high schoolers, a bunch of dummies unable to control their sex drives. They need to paddled and stood in a corner with dunce hats! Truly disgusting.

Historia
For O.J. Simpson to get away with murder, an innocent cop, a brilliant detective, had to be destroyed. That was the cynical strategy of the Simpson defense. But as certainty about Simpson's guilt grew, so did the outrage about the scapegoating of Mark Fuhrman. Now the former LAPD detective tells his side of the story in a damning expose.

Guilty
Revisado: 05-10-24
OJ was no doubt guilty of these murders, but Fuhrman was his own worst enemy. I worked with cops like Fuhrman they are competent at their jobs, but no love lost between them and people of color. I get the feeling Fuhrman was soft selling what he actually said. He puts the entire OJ interview in the book, but not his exact words in the screen writing sessions. Also he didn’t explain why he was seeking a stress retirement. I think in his retirement case he may have said that black people were the cause of his stress and he needed to be away from them to regain his mental stability but he avoided the connection relative to this issue. Do I think he did a good job at the crime scene? Yes. Did OJ get away with murder? absolutely. Well Johnny C’s days of suing the PD has come to an end and OJ is dead so they will be judged by a higher power.

Decent storyline
Revisado: 05-04-24
Preston always seems to do better when Lincoln Child has some input into his writing. When the duo goes solo something seems to be off a little. The premise of the book gets the attention and has some really good spots, but the action seems to slow in places in favor of long winded dialog. Still a good read.

Historia
John Launer, a United States Army Combat Infantryman in the Vietnam War, details his horrific experiences during that time. Setting the record straight that soldiers were not drug addicts, murderers, and baby killers, Launer documents that American media bias led to the public misunderstanding of the war. The action within is violent, bloody, and never ending, leading many veterans to devastating physical and psychological trauma upon their return home to the USA.

Great Story
Revisado: 04-29-24
The story was gripping and put you in the jungle with the Grunts. No sugar coating just raw fear and survival. The AI narration was an abomination just terrible. Clearly not narrated by a person. The narration went in and out and skipped some words. Use a real person next time.
