I picked this up as a companion to the newly released AppleTV dramatic series. I have to say I enjoyed this far more than the series. I think Hanks and Spielberg had a difficult challenge in bringing an unabridged 24hr + audio book and squeezing it into a 9 episode, 9 hour series. This book is not similar to Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers. While their are an incredible amount of personal accounts throughout, this book takes on the entire USAAF Bomber Command strategy. From it's very beginnings with the "Bomber Mafia" and their uncompromising belief in strategic bombing and it's implementation. The author does a masterful job of connecting these strategies all the way down to the human level, and the perspective of pilots and crews. He pulls back the curtain and cast the light on the devastating cost these strategies had on these young men. This book brings into sharp contrast the differing beliefs between RAF Bomber Command and the USAAF Bomber Command. Examining the difficulty in prosecuting total air war while attempting to apply morality at the same time. A great read!

An incredible tale of perspective from a high level staffer in the Trump administration. A valuable lesson in courage triumphing over blind loyalty. Her background and journey is a valuable prologue to her eventual testimony. Learning this as the reader, one can only be amazed at the incredible courage and poise Cassidy Hutchinson showed by standing up and telling the truth. Especially since she is one of only a few that had the courage to do so. Bravo!

To call this a "story" is a massive stretch. I know it is called a "guide", but it is read like a shopping list. If you're looking for excitement, look elsewhere. If you're into audio technical manuals go for it!

If you are a WWII aviation history buff, this book is for you. There are very few books out that express the personal experience of the vanquished. Here in this book are gathered the personal experiences of World War Two's greatest air combat aces. Hearing the unique perspective of what life, and death, was like flying combat missions for the Luftwaffe was very enlightening. The accounts of Walter Krupinski, Adolf Galland, Eduard Neumann, and Wolfgang Falck offered the similarities of a shared experience as Luftwaffe pilots but also unique perspectives on the Luftwaffe's greater command structure. The inclusion of their post war experience was fascinating, On the story content and overall, I give this 5 out of 5 stars. I give the performance by PJ Ochlan 3.5 to 4 stars. I believe this to be the fault of the publisher and or authors. P.J. is a gifted voice actor, capable of creating believable accents, dialects, and characters. Handcuffed as performer he wasn't given the opportunity to alter his delivery or intonation from pilot to pilot. Thus, if the listener misses the point of transition between individual pilot accounts, the neutral performance makes it all the more difficult to determine which pilot account is being expressed. That said, P.J. does and incredible job peppering these accounts with spoken German Luftwaffe terminology which greatly enhances the listeners experience.

Here in this book are gathered the personal experiences of World War Two's greatest air combat aces. Hearing the unique perspective of what life, and death, was like flying combat missions for the Luftwaffe was very enlightening. The accounts of Erich Hartmann, Johnnes Steinhoff, Deiter Hrabak, and Gunther Rall offered the similarities of a shared experience as Luftwaffe pilots but also unique perspectives on the Luftwaffe's greater command structure. The inclusion of their post war experience was fascinating, and harrowing especially in the case of Erich Hartmann. On the story content and overall, I give this 5 out of 5 stars. I give the performance by PJ Ochlan 3.5 to 4 stars. I believe this to be the fault of the publisher and or authors. I should have known better. It was in the publishers summary, and expressed in the title, "Killing the Bismarck". This book was going to be told solely through British eyes. While informative, I found it lacking. The tale of the Bismarck, from the breakout, the Battle of Denmark Strait, the pursuit and shadowing, and its ultimate demise at the hands of the Royal Navy represents the greatest naval surface action of WWII. To exclude the experiences and perceptions of the surviving Germans in this shared event lessens the overall impact. After reading this book, it made all the more appreciative for William Shirers "The Sinking of the Bismarck" and Ludovic Kennedys "Pursuit".

I love the Eagles of the Empire series. I also love Jonathan Keeble reading any of this series. He is hands down the best narrator that I have heard.
