Historia
Steven Rinella (The MeatEater Podcast) and Clay Newcomb (MeatEater's Bear Grease podcast) gather listeners for a new round of stories, this time drawing from the lives of the rugged Long Hunters, who include such figures as Daniel Boone, Henry Skaggs, and Kasper Mansker. These were the commercial hunters and trappers who explored and exploited the First Far West, the land across the Appalachian Mountains, in the era between the Seven Years War and the American Revolution—one of the most fabled periods of American history.

A Meateater Classic
Revisado: 08-14-24
First, and foremost, I am a Kentuckian. I was born here. I live my life here. I also hunt here. I spend Fall through Spring in these same woods and river bottoms mentioned in this production. I spent many a youthful day, high in a Sycamore, pondering Daniel Boone and the first hunters making their excursions into Kentucky. I'd often imagine the sights, smells, and dangers they must've encountered. Nowadays, I still spend my free time in a tree. I mostly imagine the Native American, spending days crossing these lands, walking in my footsteps before they were mine.
This production does a fantastic job of taking the listener back to that freedom (with that information which is available). Back to a time when the next shot from a Kentucky long rifle is the most important thing.
Well scripted, well read, and loaded with informational tidbits that I had not previously encountered. I cannot recommend this production highly enough. I only wish it had a print version.....I would've purchased a copy for everyone on my Christmas list!

Historia
The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

There cannot be good books without bad books
Revisado: 08-08-24
The simple, yet profound message provided in this performance is universal. You cannot experience happiness without knowing sadness. Sweet must have bitter.....just as you cannot exist without your opposite also existing.
The listener is guided to the understanding of viewing the world, and compassion, through the eyes of others. a wonderful concept.
I highly recommend this audiobook.

Historia
Call it "Zen and the Art of Farming" or a "Little Green Book", Masanobu Fukuoka's manifesto about farming, eating, and the limits of human knowledge presents a radical challenge to the global systems we rely on for our food. At the same time, it is a spiritual memoir of a man whose innovative system of cultivating the earth reflects a deep faith in the wholeness and balance of the natural world. As Wendell Berry writes in his preface, the book "is valuable to us because it is at once practical and philosophical."

Historia
These are the stories that defy conventional logic. The proverbial vanished without a trace incidences, which happen a lot more (and a lot closer to your backyard) than almost anyone thinks. These are the missing whose situations are the hardest on loved ones left behind. The cases that are an embarrassment for park superintendents, rangers, and law enforcement charged with Search & Rescue.

Historia
This wasn’t the plan. Judge Herman Calvert, 88, never thought he’d outlive his beloved wife, Marie. Yet now he finds himself alone, a grieving widower, desperate for escape from the home they built together, where every turn brings a painful reminder of his late wife. So the judge retreats to his lake cabin in rural Wisconsin, a place where an old man can find peace and solitude. A place where nature can take its course. But something new has moved in.

When Kentucky blueblood Drew Thornton parachuted to his death in September 1985 - carrying thousands in cash and 150 pounds of cocaine - the gruesome end of his startling life blew open a scandal that reached to the most secret circles of the US government. The story of Thornton and “The Company” he served, and the lone heroic fight of State Policeman Ralph Ross against an international web of corruption, is one of the most portentous tales of the 20th century.
