Dan has one really big tale that is beyond captivating and unsettling. It's hard to say more without ruining the story. Then, Lynze brings us three stories this week. Her first is a about a possible encounter with a BEK, kind of. Less of a child and more of an adult. Maybe. Then, did a young boy see the infamous Hat Man or was it someone else? Lastly, fearing things that come out from under our bed is a classic horror trope. But what if you DID see something under your bed??!!BOOK #5: We are doing a limited run of 1,500 books this year! Stories All Sound the Same, Sex-Obsessed and Missing Scares
Revisado: 11-07-24
I loved this podcast. Now all the stories sound like Dan's fake stories, and they all seem to have unnecessary, gross details about the female characters' bodies and the salacious, creepy-ass thoughts of the male characters that I'm 1000% were not in the original telling.
Dan's stories are all uncomfortable to listen to now, and all sound the same. Gross and weird. No spooks, just sex. So disappointing.

Brilliant Narration, Classic Tale
Revisado: 09-25-24
The old-timey language of this classic tale could easily make it a boring slog or a confusing word salad, but the narrator does a brilliant job of both making sense of the text and making it interesting.
His expression of emotion and intensity in such a simple reading makes listening easy, engaging, and entertaining the whole way through!

Dan crushes this week with one giant tale out of Alaska and a smaller tale from Spain! His first story will take you on a road trip to the northern tip of Alaska, up in the Arctic Circle where life is hard, sparse, and maybe more diverse than we currently know of with certainty? Did some young friends run across a murderous monster of some sort? Then to Spain we go! Is the House of Seven Chimneys in Madrid Spain haunted by the ghosts of two people connected to a possible early and unsolved murder involving the Spanish King? Next up, Lynze has some awesome stories too! First up, we explore some...

Stories All Sound the Same
Revisado: 08-27-24
All of Dan's stories episodes are starting to sound the same - and like a creepypasta, not like a supposedly true story.
Admittedly, the Alaska story was a great premise, it was just kinda bland in the way it was told. Which is the same way all of Dan's stories are told now.

Most people think of themselves as “good", but it’s not always easy to determine what’s “good” or “bad” - especially in a world filled with complicated choices and pitfalls and booby traps and bad advice. Fortunately, many smart philosophers have been pondering this conundrum for millennia, and they have guidance for us. With bright wit and deep insight, How to Be Perfect explains concepts like deontology, utilitarianism, existentialism, ubuntu, and more, so we can sound cool at parties and become better people.

Fun, Engaging, Educational
Revisado: 08-26-24
I love the personable candor with which the author writes and narrates! I've learned about most of the philosophies involved in University and still learned so much. I loved the recombinations of the different philosophies applied to the same ethical puzzles; it really helped to clarify the strengths/weaknesses and uniqueness of each of them.
Really well done, fun to listen to, easy to understand. And not at all preachy. Ultimately, it's informative, and it's up to you to make your own ethical decisions.

Great Info, Wish Delivery Wasn't Interrupted So Much
Revisado: 07-29-24
Normally I really like Prop as a guest, but I'm on episode 4 now, and his half-sentence interruptions are... a big problem. No, Prop, I don't know what you're saying, because you're leaving the vast majority or your sentences hanging. You're not saying anything, because you're not speaking in complete thoughts or sentences most of the time. It's disruptive, it's annoying.
Just say the complete thought or don't say anything at all.

The level of detail put into these episodes is just incredible! Hearing the Aztec sources in the original language was amazing, and added so much to the reality of this historical event.
Such a high-quality podcast, you can really hear all the hard work put into researching and presenting these events.

Brilliant Voice Acting
Revisado: 07-19-24
The narrator does such an amazing job conveying the tone of the events and the emotions and personalities of the characters! And the level of volume is consistent throughout - you can always hear what's said in a whisper (and it still sounds like a whisper) and characters shouting doesn't blow out your eardrums.
The story itself is good, although a bit predictable and a little ham-fisted at the end, which feels out of place. Overall enjoyable.

Gives Me the Ick, Not in a Good Way
Revisado: 06-13-24
The fact that this dad is constantly obsessing about his DAUGHTER "f***king," even moreso than her MURDERING people or BEING HARMED is sick. Like, really, WTF??
It's not horror, it's disgusting - which is a shame, because the first half was pretty good, and I was excited to hear the rest. But it's just gross! Not paranormal, not terrifying, not horrific, just sex-based shock factor.
Dan is a great storyteller, but this just isn't really a great story.

Demons, jinn, possession, sinister artifacts, and gruesome archaeological discoveries haunt this new book by Dr. Heather Lynn. Evil Archaeology investigates the archaeological record for artifacts and evidence of evil entities, revealing how demons from the ancient world may be dwelling among us. It also looks at the history and lore behind real relics believed to be haunted and includes historical accounts of demonic possession that go as far back as King Solomon invoking demons to help him build his famed temple.

Disappointing. Speculative, Sensationalist, Ethnocentric
Revisado: 06-12-24
Bill Bean is an absolute crackpot, so let's start there. Demons are harvesting adrenal secretions and women's eggs for sale on the black market? You've absolutely lost any credibility (which wasn't much) that this sensationalist, ethnocentric poorly written fan-fiction had.
She's supposedly an anthropologist, and yet continuously wrongs any nuance or context out of the information by using bowdlerized, Christian-centric sources (when even using sources). Lynn mentions her limited lens for viewing the world at least twice and yet does nothing to off-set the problem.
As for the narration, it sounds like an AI read this. There are some very strange pronunciations ("feral" as "feer-ahl", for instance) and little to no inflection or emotion. It's grating.
One word? Disappointing.
Oh, and there's basically zero archaeology used in this book aside from some ancient texts and descriptions of statues. It seems like simply a lot of sensationalist speculation, and not much science.
