Historia
When Elwood Curtis, a black boy growing up in 1960s Tallahassee, is unfairly sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy, he finds himself trapped in a grotesque chamber of horrors. Elwood’s only salvation is his friendship with fellow “delinquent” Turner, which deepens despite Turner’s conviction that Elwood is hopelessly naive, that the world is crooked, and that the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble.

This is an excellent book

excellent, no frills description of actual military events
Revisado: 09-10-24
I liked everything about the actual book, well-written, clean prose, very detailed, incredibly engage and propulsive.
I dislike the virtual voice narration because it is incapable of many basic speaking skills. It struggled with the numerical names of military groups, made weird pauses after every period -- even the ones in military titles like Lt. There were other smaller issues as well, but they didn't affect the comprehension of the content nearly as much.

Historia
Musician, actor, activist, and the iconic face of New York City cool, Debbie Harry is the front woman of Blondie, a band that forged a new sound that brought together the worlds of rock, punk, disco, reggae, and hip-hop to create some of the most beloved pop songs of all time. As a muse, she collaborated with some of the boldest artists of the past four decades. The scope of Debbie Harry’s impact on our culture has been matched only by her reticence to reveal her rich inner life - until now.

puzzled by the extreme negative reviews
Revisado: 06-26-23
I've read many musician memoirs, this is a solid, seemingly honest (have no way of knowing, but I don't doubt it) and genuinely illuminating work. absolutely a must for fans of NYC music, this adds a unique dimension to the many other memoirs of the artists of that time and place. the super negative reviews are seriously puzzling, there is real content here, some sly humor and a lot to feel good about. I was more a fan of many other bands from NYC prior to reading this, and afterward I leave with a much greater love and respect for Blondie.

basic... disappointing... tawdry
Revisado: 02-12-23
having been on a deep dive into music autobiographies, this one stands head and shoulders above all the others in its vapidness, ego, and lack of insight. almost embarrassingly devoid of unknown details other than the authors sexual conquests. it won't deflate my enjoyment of the bands music, but I wish I had not spent the time and money on this. the only redeeming passages are the remembrances he incorporates from other people.
