Historia
Two lifelong besties (and their trusty engineer) adventure through the vast constellations of Star Trek's decades on TV, especially the lesser-loved stories. But instead of bitching about why they’re bad, we’re going to find the joy in each of them, because everybody loves the great episodes, but it takes dedication, insight, and hard-working fools to love the clunkers too. And by Jove, we are those fools! Positive, inclusive and optimistic (though not uncritical!) we try to find the brilliance even in the least-loved episodes of our favorite TV shows!

Love the hosts!
Revisado: 01-17-25
Started listening to Khaki and Kay a while ago with So Farscape, and really love their dynamic. Both shows are well done enjoyable, complete with sound bites from the show of the hour, and a great back and forth chemistry between the hosts. Interesting triva and great listener inclusion round out their show. they clearly appreciate their listeners and enjoy making their show as Interesting and entertaining as possible for us fellow fans!

Historia
Captain Mal Reynolds is in a fix. He’d like nothing more than to find honest smuggling work that stays under the Alliance’s radar and keeps the good ship Serenity in the sky. But when an old flame of Jayne Cobb’s sends a desperate plea across the galaxy, his crew has other ideas. On the arid, far-flung world of Thetis, the terrifying Elias Vandal is threatening to overrun the town of Coogan’s Bluff with his trigger-happy army. He wants control of the only thing standing between its people and dustbowl ruin: their water supply.

Faithful to the source material.

This is a very well-done follow up to the show. It feels a little like fanfic a times (what book follow up doesn't?) but it is extremely well done. The first two books in this series have felt like episodes of the show, which is exactly what fans of Firefly want. Each book centers on a different character, as the cover art suggests, the first book having been Mal, and this installment centering on Jayne. The Magnificent Nine gives us lots of back story on Jayne and his junkyard dog with a heart of gold energy, plus the usual bar fighting, guns blazing, trash talking, vaguely old timey sci-fi fun Firefly did so well. The narrator does a good job, he is clear and pleasant to listen to, and had a good voice for handling the South Western American English meets Mandarin Chinese dialogue peppered throughout. I look forward to the next books in the series, and I think these books would be a very enjoyable listen for most Firefly fans.

Recommended by Rugger::"I think a problem with a lot of sci-fi is their propensity to one-note species. And Trek is often no exception: The Klingon and honourable and violent, the Vulcans are logical, the Ferengi are profit-obsessed and misogynistic—and then we meet Ishka. This episode is funny, but also manages to really develop and complicate the characters of Quark and Rom while keeping the flavour of Ferengi culture. Ishka criticises Ferengi society, but she is still fully Ferengi, not a stand-in for "humans are the best."Family Business first aired on May 15, 1995, written by Ira Steven ...

Great Trek Podcast
Revisado: 11-26-23
Hosts Khaki and Kay have great chemistry, and are a pleasure to listen to. Chief Engineer Greg is delightful as well, and a great addition since their earlier podcast So Farscape. Though, as seems to be the fate of all Chief Engineers, sometimes it's a job and a half just keeping the hosts from flying her apart!
The Podcast's format keeps things interesting as well. That's because this time, it's personal! Instead of a full watch through of any particular series (see: So Farscape) they have opted to watch and discuss fan suggested content taken from the Star Trek universe as a whole.
Their only criteria: for better or for worse, someone out there truly loves it! Their goal as hosts is to find a way to share that love. That concept is quite literally the joy of watching and discussing Star Trek with anyone. This approach keeps the energy of their show fun and positive, it keeps the over all pacing of the podcast up, and it makes every new episode an enjoyable surprise.
The Result: a Star Trek party mix of greatest hits and greatest misses that you won't mind getting jammed in the tape deck! If you're in to that sort of thing, that is.

Historia
In The Power, the world is a recognizable place: There's a rich Nigerian boy who lounges around the family pool; a foster kid whose religious parents hide their true nature; an ambitious American politician; a tough London girl from a tricky family. But then a vital new force takes root and flourishes, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power: They can cause agonizing pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world drastically resets.

Glad I gave it a listen
Revisado: 06-06-23
I was not looking for such an intense listen, but I'm glad I gave The Power a chance. The narrator has a broad vocal range and is highly emotive. This book's engaging voice-acting, combined with the strangeness of the story, grabbed my attention from the start and didn't let go.
The author adheres to one of the best and truest traditions of science fiction: dismantle the collective consciousness of our present-day reality and social status quo to find all the trap doors, two-way mirrors, and false windows. In doing so, she shows the readers just how thin the skein between our two worlds is.
This story begs the question: What if women developed a power that would allow them to displace the male political and religious leaders of the world, creating a matriarchal society? What might that look like?
The writing style is direct and cutting, at times gut wrenchingly so. There are scenes that, undoubtedly, some readers will find upsetting, so I wouldn't recommend this for anyone sensitive to such content. Overall, I would say the story wouldn't be quite as powerful without those moments, so I don't consider it to be sensationalism for its own sake.
That said, this story falls in the category of sci-fi social commentary and should be taken as such. As is the case with Animal Farm, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, etc. it deals with politics and social issues but is not meant to be an essay on either. Above all else, this story is metaphorical and meant to inspire the reader to view the world in a new light.

Voice Casting is Excellent
Revisado: 07-19-22
This was a very enjoyable delivery of a story I have come to know and love. The voices may not be what you have in mind if you have read Dune previously, but I think the majority were spot on.

Well done and worth a listen if you love Farscape.
Revisado: 09-12-21
The creators provide pleasant narration and well edited sound bites that put you in the show, also some interesting notes on Farscape's production and related sci-fi. The show is based around a dynamic of old fan/first timer that creates some good banter. Very little negativity from these two, just good natured jibes, a bit of low brow humor, and lots of genuine appreciation of the show. I enjoyed re-living the episodes through someone else's perspective. One of my favorite things about Farscape is introducing a friend to the show and watching their reaction, it's one of those shows that people always have a strong reaction to.
