The missing pieces

Amazing insight! I knew there had to be more to the story of any mental disorders he has, & why he believes his so-called "intelligence" is higher than it obviously is! This book is very well written & informative. I found myself thinking, "Oh, sure, that makes sense now!" several times. This book helped fill in missing pieces, & answer some of the questions I've had since Nov. 9th, 2016. If you haven't seen the author's interview with Rachel Maddow, I highly recommend it!

Incredibly addictive book! I listened to some chapters a 2nd time, before moving on. I wish the book was longer, I felt like there was a lot left out... and I mean more than what the "music" covered! I hope there is another book already being outlined. Mike Dawson, @DawsAngeles was the perfect voice for the audiobook!

Alan Cumming not only has a very interesting story to tell about his life, he also sheds a lot of light on abuse, not just of his horrific physical abuse at the hands of his father, but the psychological abuse he & his brother lived through, & his Mother felt she had to endure. Facing his abuser, after years of blocking the abuse & seeking therapy, was a wonderful closure for Alan & his brother, Tom. Not many people have the benefit of confront ting their abuser & having closure! I couldn't have wished for a better ending for Alan, Tom, & Mary Darling!

Schizo-Effect Disorder from the perspective of a 15 yr old boy

I'm disappointed that the book description doesn't mention the Mental Disability of this 15 yr old boy, and what was going thru his mind, & happening with it, during his 1st Psychotic break. This is an excellent book for any parent, raising a teenager with Schizo-Effect, Bipolar, or any other mental disability that is challenging to both the teenager & parent! I have so much more insight as to what my daughter has been going thru since SHE was 15 yrs old! In someways I wish she had a Psychotic break before she finally did at age 19. There is so much more we would've been able to understand! Thank you to NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour for turning me on to this book! I absolutely loved it & pray I've learned to be more patient & understanding with my children!

I can understand why some reviewers complained that this book is not just for adults. However, I can also see why this book might be classified as adults only! Having children with anxiety disorders, I am aware how tragedies can affect children & create anxiety's, either from hearing about a real occurrence, watching a movie, or from a book. Although this book is basically told from a 15 y.o. girls' perspective, it is centered around the 3 airplane crashes, that happened in less than 90 days, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1951-1952. My 19 y.o. would've had a lot of anxiety about airplane crashes if she read this book at 15 y.o. If she listened or read this book now, I'm sure she'd have increased anxiety whenever my husband has to fly somewhere for business. Every person is different, and erring on the cautious side, for the rating, was a smart idea, IMO!
As far as how I felt about the story, I enjoyed it very much. My only issue is the high number of characters I had to keep track of. Had the book started with the main group of girls, & talked about their friendship with each other, then followed each of the girls home & introduce their family & connections, it probably would've been easier to keep the girls & their families straight.
Learning about the plane crashes through the eyes of a teenager was an awesome approach. I'm sure it reminded adults how differently kids view various events, compared to their parents & other Community members.
