Very good story, AI narration poor
Revisado: 06-03-24
I enjoyed this story very much. It was reminiscent of Red Storm Rising, which is high praise indeed. However, the AI narration, while easy to listen to, missed out on quite a bit of opportunities when some emotion would be useful. Also, the AI narrator failed to recognize that an acronym such as PLAAF (PLA Air Force) is not pronounced "PLAAF". There were quite a few errors of this type scattered throughout the book, especially as the author included many abbreviations when describing the military technologies of the US, Taiwan, and China. These made the performance rather irritating.

Good but not great
Revisado: 10-26-22
I enjoyed the story, but I do not think it was up to the standard set with the other John Corey books. This one was way too predictable, for example.

Great story, average narrator
Revisado: 03-03-22
This was a great story. I had trouble continuing due to the narrator. She doesn't really do male voices very well, at least without them sounding fake, I'm sure it is very difficult, but it is what it is.

The sequel to the number one Audible Best Seller Earthcore, Mount Fitz Roy continues the tale of Patrick O’Doyle and Bertha Lybrand, who were part of the horror show that occurred far below the mountains of Utah. They learn that the "mother of all motherlodes” discovered there was not unique, that there is another deposit similar to it three miles beneath the towering peak of Cerro Chaltén on the disputed border between Chile and Argentina. O'Doyle, a middle-aged former member of a disgraced black-ops unit, gets his aging team back together to go after this fortune.

I thought it would just be a repeat of the first book, just in a different location. I was SO WRONG!!! I really enjoyed how the plot twisted and took me by surprise!

Great story, horrible narration
Revisado: 05-10-17
I enjoyed this story, as I do all of the Oregon stories. I would have rated this an overall 5 star scepter for that. The narrator has no clue about how to differentiate the characters with consistent voices and inflection. Scott Brick would have been a much better choice.

Great story, narration moderately insulting
Revisado: 11-14-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I enjoyed this book, although the ending was predictable. The narrator's over-emphasized accents were distracting, especially since I live in North Carolina (not too far from Ashville) and DO NOT speak that way...don't really know anyone that does. I was warned by other reviews prior to listening to the book...so at least it was expected. Don't let the bad accents deter you from the book...but read/listen to the first one first!
What aspect of Bronson Pinchot’s performance would you have changed?
The over-emphasis on accents. Everyone sounded like a hick from the hills...even the main character, who hails from New Jersey!
