Historia
After more than two decades of research and travels, Christophe Lebold, who befriended the poet and spent time with him in Los Angeles, delivers a stimulating analysis of Cohen’s life and art. Gracefully blending biography and essay, he interrogates the mission Cohen set out for himself: to show us that darkness is just the flip side of light.

as much an analysis as a biography
Revisado: 10-05-24
You have to be a real Cohen fan to hang in through this overly long book. However, for those who do hang in, it effectively fills in some gaps and places Cohen's work in the context of his life and personal struggles. I'm glad to gain a better understanding of the quiet man I saw only in passing as he listened to jazz in a Montreal club.

Historia
Dr. Bill Bright called this book, "Magnificent. . . . One of those rare, life-changing books." The sad truth is that holiness is one of the most misunderstood topics in the Church today, with one side preaching legalistic bondage and the other side preaching false grace. In Go And Sin No More, Dr. Michael L. Brown strikes a biblical balance and points the way to a grace-filled, Spirit-e empowered holiness, revealing how you can overcome temptation and live a passionate life of holiness that will fill God's heart with joy. Drawing on years of Scripture study and and personal experience, ...

AI has a tough time with Biblical references
Revisado: 08-30-24
It didn't take long to figure out "jazz" was James, "pet" was Peter, "eckles" was Ecclesiastes. Took longer to decipher what I heard as "CF" must be Zeph for Zephaniah and "eesa" is Isa for Isaiah. But saving the cost of a human reader is probably what allowed this book to be a freebie. It got to be kind of fun figuring out the puzzle, and hearing Timothy and Samuel referred to as Tim and Sam like we were old buddies. As for content, the book is excellent.

Female main character is painfully annoying!
Revisado: 02-08-24
Some good plots but the central character is so annoying it's hard to enjoy the story. She starts out as someone with some skills and potential, but by the third book she does little but indulge in neurotic ruminations and act out impulsively in ways that repeatedly endanger those around her. There are much better apocalyptic boxed sets on Audible, such as Steven Konkoly's. Skip the Lodge series.

downloaded pdf, looking forward to 2nd listen
Revisado: 06-05-23
I learned to play piano from written music. This book helps me move toward creating satisfying arrangements from lead sheets/fake books and playing by ear.
There is a lot of info to absorb, but the brevity of the book makes it ideal for repeat listening. It was easy to download and print the accompanying pdf from the entry for this book in my library at audible.com. I recommend taking that extra step, as it makes it much easier to visualize and review the information presented. I listened the first time without the pdf and absorbed a lot of info, but I had trouble keeping up on the various scale types without the pdf.
Grateful for the info that reduces my dependence on sheet music and frees me up to play spontaneously. Now to go practice!
