Just okay
Revisado: 10-17-24
The story was simple and cute. Nothing really exciting or memorable. I finished it mostly for the narrator, she did a great job!

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Narration is weird
Revisado: 01-18-24
The story is great! Love the book but would probably enjoy it more if I just read it instead of listened to the Audio book. The narrator makes everything sound like an epic battle is about to happen, even if she’s just talking about being hungry. It’s weird.

Read with caution
Revisado: 02-05-23
Okay, so I know this is going to sound crazy but…I had to delete this book and stop listening around chapter 4. I started having weird dreams once I started reading this book and felt like there was something or someone in my house. I finally stopped listening after my baby woke up from her nap screaming and scared. My husband said he was woken up by a male voice talking in his ear only to find the room empty.
Not saying that the book itself has brought something into my home…but I only noticed weird things while I was listening to it or shortly after. Could just be coincidental!
The writing is very good though and if I wasn’t afraid of what was attached to it, I would have loved to finish the story!

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Boring
Revisado: 02-01-20
Super boring. I couldn't get into this book, it was nothing like the previous book, The Butterfly Garden. Even the "big reveal" fell short for me. I don't recommend it.

okay story, weird narration
Revisado: 04-07-19
The book wasn't terrible but definitely wouldn't compare it to gone girl, like so many past reviews have. I was captivated in the beginning and wanted to know what was going to happen but as the book went on It became sooo predictable. The only big reveal happens within the first few chapters. The rest of the story follows a cliche and worn out storyline. I think the only thing that sets this book apart from other stories within its genre is the kind of torture and violence described. As for the narrator of the book, she did a great job. The only thing that bothered me was that she kept enunciating silent letters in certain words like, white, and pronounced it "hwite". The word hwite was repeated throughout the story, so it became annoying pretty quickly.
