loved it so much and it is so well narrated, I listened to it a second time. Most importantly, I was blown away by the personality, courage, and exploits of the Australian main character, who, in fact was a real heroine in France during the war.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

A Deeply Touching Novel
Revisado: 06-05-19
Hauntingly beautiful and sad. Wonderfully narrated. Even though it's a work of fiction, apparently the story is based on the tragic reality of how children from poor families were ripped away and sold for adoption...not in Dicksonian England, but during the first half of the 20th Century in Tennessee.

Historia
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

An Epic Love Story
Revisado: 07-06-17
I 'm not usually a fan of tales of romance, but this novel is much more than that. Set during Hitler's invasion of Russia and the siege of Leningrad, this is heartwrenching tale of the persistence of love in the midst of great suffering and the struggle to survive against almost insurmountable odds.

Masterful Storytelling.
Revisado: 04-07-17
I enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone who loves stories of European royalty. The author spins this tale with such realism t hat I feel as though I became intimately acquainted with the actual characters of history. I was drawn in so completely that I seemed to be reliving the events of that time. The narrator is superb storyteller . She brings the characters to life with her skilled vocal modulation.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.
