Already ready for book four
Revisado: 02-16-22
This series has been surprising. It's shockingly good, and a whole lot of fun. I am really interested to see where Josh Erickson with the series, as well as his career. Book one was great book to was better, but book 3 was a complete surprise. Josh Erickson has a way of developing his characters in just the right amounts. Not too much backstory, not too much advancement all at once oh, it's just the right pace. I find the even the characters I wasn't sure about have grown on me. One other point worth making oh, a lot of series when they get a few books in start trying to turn up the heat I would assume to try to keep their audience. One thing I have really appreciate it is that Erickson is able to show the relationship between the two main characters, and allow them to grow together without getting true graphic where to visual in their physical relationship. that takes a lot of talent. looking forward to book four.

Historia
Gabe abandoned life as a conman after the disasters in Lincoln, and he managed to carve out a bit of peace with the scraps he had left. Unfortunately, bad guys suck at respecting personal boundaries. So, together with Heather and a group of weird new companions, he finds himself shackled to a horrifying cosmic game with sky-high stakes, inscrutable goals, and rules that seem to change every five minutes. And when old gods and monsters resurface to make things so much worse, he's finally forced to admit that he might not be talking his way past any of it.

Fresh, new... Even better than the first book
Revisado: 02-08-22
This series is a lot of fun. It's a good ride. I don't know what I expected from book two, but I was really happy with where he went. I was worried I was going to get bored , but I think the author took it in just about every interesting and risky Direction he could. Rather than write down a bunch of spoilers, there's development across the board. I feel like each character had their Fair allotment of development. For someone like me always looking for something new and interesting, storyline in this is pretty great. There's just enough cliche hero stuff to satisfy the Perpetual twelve-year-old inside, but just about everything else about it it's interesting in new, at least to me. I think Josh Erickson has a bright future and I will be watching for his name.

Historia
Gabriel Delling might call himself a professional con artist, but when walking superstitions start trying to bite his face off, his charm is shockingly unhelpful. It turns out living nightmares almost never appreciate a good joke. Together with a succubus who insists on constantly saving his life, Gabe desperately tries to survive a new reality that suddenly features demons, legends, and a giant locust named Dale - all of whom pretty much hate his guts. And when an ancient horror comes hunting for a spirit locked in his head, Gabe finds himself faced with the excruciating choice between death...or becoming some kind of freaking hero.

An unexpectedly fun ride.
Revisado: 01-26-22
This was an unexpectedly fun ride. This was a unique and well-executed idea. Their characters or easy to relate to, and even though the story is a little bit complicated, the author does a really good job making sure that everything makes sense and is in its place.
Some reviews didn't think the author did a good job reading his own work. I disagree. With the exception of a character or two, he seems to be pretty talented and able to do a good enough job for the needs of the story. There were a couple of characters that I didn't prefer the voice is perfect, but all of those are minor concerns in comparison to the story overall. I look forward to seeing what else this author has coming.

Well written, one of those unique situations where the backstory is written into the action, letting you begin the story and still understand all of the past, at least as much as you need it. Characters were likeable, it was a good ride

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

It's unbelievably shocking.
Revisado: 09-17-21
This is one of those books that would have been a little bit overdone if it were fiction, but since it's real it's just plain shocking. With the exception of the first couple of chapters being about securing a boat and a crew, which was a little bit dry, the rest of it was riveting. Well worth a credit, well worth a listen, and probably something I will listen to again when my credit count gets a little low. I can't say enough about the human world to survive.
this is very well written, and the narrator does a spectacular job. One thing I appreciate very much about this story is that it doesn't just slide into a bunch of quotes from people's old Diaries in order to make its point. Human beings can be amazing creatures when they are focused on something bigger. This is one of those stories to tell your kids about.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Broady is my spirit animal.
Revisado: 07-31-21
Honestly, this series has been a blast. The characters are completely relatable and the story line unique enough to keep my interest. I read a lot of this genre and find that the more I read, the easier it is to become bored with the unfortunately common themes. Then there is the struggle to find the scifi/realistic enough military presence balance that many series never quite figure out. RC Bray always does a phenomenal job. I am already looking forward to book three. Very well done guys.

Great dark fun.. Not for younger kids though...
Revisado: 09-28-20
I really enjoyed this. I like stories that re bizarre, a little gorey, based outside of reality. There is too much reality in my day to day. At first I thought this would be on line wh maybe Brom's Lost God's or Gaiman's The Graveyard Book... Stuff my kids (8-17) like, and for the most part it would be. B my younger two don't theed the few subtle references to child molestation or references to sex "the dark things adults do in their room after their children are put to bed" (not an exact quote). Because of the couple handfuls of pretty obvious references to that, it's not a book for your younger listeners unless you want a bunch of questions you may not be ready to answer. Otherwise, this book was a lot of dark fun.

It's fine, but could have been much more
Revisado: 09-21-20
Pros: Narration was spectacular. I love Ray Porter as a narrator. Book one was pretty fun, and the whole series avoided the mistake of trying to increase its relevance by injecting a bunch of completely unnecessary sex or foul language. Everything focused on a pretty good story overall. I appreciated that and will seek out this author in the future for giving me a book series I don't mind sharing with my kids.
Cons: I didn't/couldn't connect well with some of the characters. By boom three there were still a few teir 2 characters I got mixed up. Parts of the story were rushed while other parts struggled to make sense in the larger scheme. To me, some hugely important things just... kind of happened with little detail, and other much less important things were so detailed I struggled just a bit to not skip forward. Overall it was a good, albeit mostly predictable story line of a pretty standard book of this genre.
