as touching as it is gruesome
Revisado: 03-06-24
Bravo Two Zero is a biographical account of an SAS soldier who is taken prisoner in Iraq. McNab's matter-of-fact retelling of his experience as a POW is, at times, as touching as it is gruesome.
The book begins with McNab’s brief overview of his rocky relationships and his draw to military life. From there, it sequences quickly into the failed foundation of the Brazo Two Zero mission, the blunders that filled their first hours in Iraq, and his ultimate capture and imprisonment. McNab’s style keeps the action in front of the reader with bold bluntness, not veiling or shying away from the realities of his time in prison.
Understanding the complex experiences and needs of soldiers returning from battle experience is essential. In Bravo Two Zero, McNab addresses the importance of education, camaraderie, and the toll of PTSD for today’s soldiers. Although harsh, this was a profoundly good read.

You don't need to be a military buff to enjoy this
Revisado: 05-26-23
SEAL Team Six is a peek into the incredible, veiled world of SEAL training and life. Howard Wasdin's words shed light on the sacrifices special forces men and their families make to serve in an elite unit. The story flows seamlessly from Wasdin's early childhood, to college and through his recruitment and life in the Navy. The bulk of the book focuses on where SEALs spend most of their time, on training. After reading this book, I came away with a better sense of the preparedness and capabilities of all elite groups including HRT, Rangers, Delta, and SEALs.
This is a good book for everyone; you don't need to be a military buff to enjoy the read/listen. Wasdin breaks down military concepts into accessible bites for everyone.
