Historia
Johannesburg, 1980s Apartheid South Africa. Augustine flees her vengeful ex-boyfriend with nothing but her child and the clothes on her back, terrified he will find her. I couldn’t even finish this. Halfway through I had lost track of the characters and it seemed like the whole story was off track. Disappointed in the writing.

Hard to follow.
Revisado: 02-11-25
I understand this was a moment in time of a parent with a severe disability, but it was confusing going from person to person and was a bizarre ending with no closure. I suppose that was the author’s intent, that the pain and uncertainty doesn’t end, but just continues day to day.

Intriguing storyline and excellent narration
Revisado: 09-14-24
One of the best narrative voices I’ve heard in a long time. The characters were believable. An unusual turn early on in the story led to a much bigger plot for the rest of the book. I highly recommend this book and will check out others by Robin James.

Excellent storyline based on historical facts
Revisado: 07-23-24
I loved the characters and the descriptive language. Ms Harmon wove the Indian language in with English so well that the reader barely noticed the difference, and made it completely understandable. This book presents a fascinating look into life crossing country as pioneers, and the relationship with the Indians. I definitely recommend.

Odd narration and flow
Revisado: 01-27-24
The narrator paused each line halfway through. It sounded like he was starting a new sentence but then I realized he was continuing the last sentence. It was as like this the entire book. I didn’t know if he was trying to emulate a Native American or Hispanic character or if he was it a poor narrator. Either way, I have listened to many audiobooks with excellent narrators and he is not one of them. He also had a monotone with no expression.
I was not impressed by the author’s writing. His attempt to use big words or phrases, when a simpler one would suffice, sounded unnatural and did not result in an even flow. It did not sound like a person would really speak. It was also choppy and did not move from scene to scene easily. This is the lowest score I have given an Audible book and I was very disappointed.

Fun story but annoying voices
Revisado: 01-22-24
I liked the story but the performance lagged. I finally increased the speed to 1.2x. The hypnotherapist with laryngitis and the southern males who sound like they smoked too many cigars and were half asleep were very annoying. The last quarter of the book was more palatable when Leland no longer had to deal with in person with Mary Ann and Bobby.

When is Book 2 coming out?!
Revisado: 01-15-24
Great story line. Maybe a little over the top in some parts, but that’s what made it fun. The narrator was great and the story kept changing direction, just when you thought you had it figured out. Can’t wait for Attorney Euchre Book 2 to see if he stays as a patent lawyer or changes careers, and if he gets together with Lelia.

One of the best!
Revisado: 11-08-23
This book was one of the best! I listen to a lot of books each month but this was one of the most memorable. The author employed clever use of chapters, alternating between the stories of each woman. One time I actually skipped ahead because I was too caught up with what was happening to Claire and couldn’t wait to find out how that particular scene played out. It has lots of twists and turns and unexpected moments how certain characters fit into the story. I loved the ending how Eva found her true happiness, even it was for a short time. This book was well written and well performed and one I will not forget.

Ashling is every busy parent’s dream: a professional nanny with experience and a warm, sunny attitude. But from the moment Mary hires her to look after her young children, things start to feel just a little...off. Are Mary’s stressful work schedule and lack of sleep playing games with her own sanity, or has she welcomed an unstable troublemaker into her home?

What was the point of this?
Revisado: 10-23-23
Very strange. I hated all the weird laughing in the beginning. I knew Ashling was “a little off” during the interview and I never would have hired her. When she completely disobeyed my instructions, I would have fired her early on. Mary should not have had children with that crazy work schedule and her insecurities. It’s clear her work was her priority. And the ending was horrible. I would not have paid to listen to this production.
