Acerca de esta escucha

Academy Award nominee Rachel McAdams stars in Mary Jane, a poignant and intimate drama following a single mother’s journey caring for her chronically ill young son. Set in New York City, the play unfolds in two parts—Mary Jane's small Queens apartment and a pediatric hospital.

With unflinching honesty and unexpected humor, we witness Mary Jane's tireless devotion, her interactions with medical professionals, and her struggle to maintain her sense of self.

Playwright Amy Herzog's naturalistic dialogue and carefully observed details create an achingly authentic portrait of contemporary motherhood and medical care. Mary Jane offers a clear-eyed look at resilience and human connection in trying circumstances.

Available in Dolby Atmos on Audible.

this book easily draws you in and holds your attention every moment. in a short amount of time you feel like you know these characters. then the end just kind of drops you. it's perhaps meant to allow you to imagine your own ending, but there are too many choices and you are so invested in the characters that you would like to know what actually happens in the story. it's a little disappointing.

This was so realistic, life with a child with severe developmental delay… I could feel all the feels

Too real

Trigger warning: NICU stay. This story is from a broadway show about a mom of a special needs child and deals with a NICU stay. My son was born 5 weeks early and we had a week-long stay at the NICU, this felt like being back there. It was nice to hear someone else’s story as it felt identical in even the short amount of time we stayed. It was hard to listen.

Glimpse into a tough situation - from a broadway show

This book had me, until the end. What the what??? Like how do I move on not knowing what happened? I means I can certainly guess but I don’t want to guess. It was a good listen though.

The storyline

I hate books that just end and make absolutely no sense. It started out kinda slow and then you find out that it’s about a little boy who is handicap. He’s in the hospital mom gets a migraine and the the book ends.

Confusing.

I was surprised by the way this play pulled me in and had me listening intently until the end. The reviews I had read we're lukewarm, so my expectations weren't that high. Luckily, I listened anyway and felt the better for it. I could relate to sick babies in a NICU, but not chronically ill children. This didn't prevent me from recognizing her struggle with managing hope and expectations for her gravely ill child. The last scene could be interpreted many ways. It had me in tears.

Very moving

the loud music for cell calls were startling. the narration was well done.
