I hate when you listen to a book for 8 hours and the last 15 minutes wrap everything up. The ending was rushed and didn't answer all the questions.

I should have listened to my first instinct and turned it off. There are no likeable characters in this book. Everyone is an a-hole and makes terrible decisions and can't figure out why their life has gone away.

ok, disappointing ending
Revisado: 12-25-24
I liked this story to begin with and then the main character turned into a paranoid and irrational human being. She didn't have to do what she did, it was so irritating to listen to her lame rationalizations and focus more on her opponent than her daughter. Her character ended up being irredeemable in my eyes.

Historia
An orchestral conductor has been found dead and Detective Inspector Jack Robinson needs the delightfully incisive and sophisticated Miss Fisher's assistance. Hugh Tregennis has been murdered in a most flamboyant mode by a killer with a point to prove. But how many killers is Phryne really stalking? At the same time, the dark curls and disdainful air of mathematician and code-breaker Rupert Sheffield are taking Melbourne by storm. They've certainly taken the heart of Phryne's old friend from the trenches of WWI, John Wilson. Phryne recognises Sheffield as a man who attracts danger and is determined to protect John from harm.

disappointed
Revisado: 12-19-24
I love this series, I have repeatedly listened to all the books. I felt like this one was lacking all my favorite things. Phryne was certainly not the main character of this book. I missed all the interactions with her and her family. I had to keep relistening because I felt like I was missing all the usual details about the villains, but they just weren't there. I did enjoy a few of the bit players, the knitting code cracker and the retired beekeeping former Intelligence officer. Overall I feel like it was lacking the usual Phryne sparkle.
