Another Lisa See favorite book for me!! This depiction of early Chinese female physicians was fascinating! The view into foot binding - the whys and the hows- was painful to hear but so interesting. Great book and incredible narration.

I kept hoping the story would get more interesting. SO many repetitions of the very same things — just to make it longer? Horrible character development. Narrator added zero intonations to make it more interesting. I can’t believe finished it.

This story caught my interest right away and had a few surprises along the way also. My problem is the narration made me look up synthetic narrations and learn some about that. I understand that, thus far, Audible considers them against the rules. But I believe Joe James is synthetic. If by chance not, he must lose the robotic voice!

I gave the story a 5 star, and wish I had read this book rather than listened. The narration— especially the HORRIBLE female voices — were a big distraction, so, I gave the narration a 1 star- would have given a big zero if possible!! It actually made me want to stop listening. Only Sandra Brown’s interesting story kept me at it. Yuck - even the men’s voices were like fingernails on a chalkboard to me after a while!!! This guy should never attempt female voices! I wish I could set an audible alarm to not let me buy a book with this reader.
