Acerca de esta escucha

The year 1920 comes in with a roar in this rousing and suspenseful novel by number one New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown. Prohibition is the new law of the land, but murder, mayhem, lust, and greed are already institutions in the Moonshine Capitol of Texas.

Thatcher Hutton, a war-weary soldier on the way back to his cowboy life, jumps from a moving freight train to avoid trouble...and lands in more than he bargained for. On the day he arrives in Foley, Texas, a local woman goes missing. Thatcher, the only stranger in town, is suspected of her abduction, and worse. Standing between him and exoneration are a corrupt mayor, a crooked sheriff, a notorious cathouse madam, a sly bootlegger, feuding moonshiners...and a young widow whose soft features conceal an iron will.

What was supposed to be a fresh start for Laurel Plummer turns to tragedy. Left destitute but determined to dictate her own future, Laurel plunges into the lucrative regional industry, much to the dislike of the good ol’ boys, who have ruled supreme. Her success quickly makes her a target for cutthroat competitors, whose only code of law is reprisal. As violence erupts, Laurel and - now deputy - Thatcher find themselves on opposite sides of a moonshine war, where blood flows as freely as whiskey.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Set in 1920, this superior thriller from best seller Brown firmly anchors all the action in the plot.... Laurel and Thatcher are strong and inventive characters, and their surprising decisions and evolving relationship will keep readers engaged. Brown shows why she remains in the top rank of her field.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“Brown doesn’t often delve into historical fiction territory, but she does here with gusto, and readers will practically taste the dusty streets of Foley and feel every rickety bump of the moonshiners’ trucks. There are shoot-outs and reformed prostitutes and a no-good hillbilly family, but none of it feels like an empty stereotype - it’s just all a lot of fun. Combined with Brown’s knack for romantic tension and page-turning suspense, this one is a winner.” (Booklist, starred review)

"A masterful storyteller." (USA Today)

I love many of Sandra Browns books. This one however wasn’t as enjoyable as most. I think the narrators voice for the main woman character wasn’t very nice. That made it hard to listen to the whole book. The story was OK not really a major mystery or any twists or turns.

Not her best.

Not like Ms Brown’s usual wonderful stories - but definitely worth reading!! I’ve never read a book that focuses on Prohibition - very interesting subject.

Terrific book!

I’d been anticipating the release of this book and assumed it would be a thriller/suspense novel. What I discovered was a well-written and enjoyable departure from Ms. Brown’s “norm.” Don’t get me wrong—her “norm” is always binge-worthy and keeps me guessing until the end, but lately her books have been rather formulaic: woman finds herself in a tough situation with a loner bad guy who actually ends up being a good guy who saves the day and gets the girl.

Blind Tiger takes place during the 1920’s bootleg era in a small Texas town rife with political corruption, rival bootleggers, a brothel run by a ruthless madam, a sweet but iron-backboned widow woman trying to keep a step ahead of starvation, and an enigmatic cowboy who steps into the middle of all the chaos and has the skill set to kick some serious butt.

I’ve listened to audio books since the late ‘80s when they were shipped through the snail mail on multiple cassette tapes that you had to “smack” when the tape got stuck. I’m an avid listener as well as an avid reader of many genres. I’m not a paid reader or reviewer; I just enjoy the stimulation of reading a well-written book with interesting characters and settings, and perhaps I’ll learn a thing or two along the way. The mark of a good book is that the story and characters stick around in your head like old friends long after the book is finished. Blind Tiger is one of those.

After reading some of the negative reviews about the reader, I feel compelled to give my 2 cents. I felt Jason Culp was well-matched to the story and gave a good performance. No reader will ever be able to nail every voice, but Mr. Culp was a good match for Thatcher, and he differentiated between the characters in a way that kept my interest.

An Unexpected Surprise
