While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, a baffling cipher found near the body. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, sort through the bizarre riddle, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci, clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

It's ok
Revisado: 08-22-24
It's a solid adventure story. I don't really care if the facts aren't true; it's a fiction book. What annoys me is the implausibility of certain aspects, like dragging a guy who tried to murder you all over Europe. Why? It's fine.

Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Why does he cry so damn much?
Revisado: 05-08-24
Every time he's with his girlfriend they're either having sex or he's crying. Constantly crying. And the girlfriend sequences are so cringe. It gets uncomfortable to listen to. I liked the book overall but a few things threw me. The crying, the weird terrorism subplot, the odd maturity and immaturity at the same time. it reads like an old man's wet dream in some spots. The dude falls for an older woman and she's super into and they just say, "I love you" all the fucking time.

Historia
That Thin, Wild Mercury Sound is the definitive treatment of Bob Dylan's magnum opus, Blonde on Blonde, not only providing the most extensive account of the sessions that produced the trailblazing album but also setting the record straight on much of the misinformation that has surrounded the story of how the masterpiece came to be made. Including many new details and eyewitness accounts, as well as keen insight into the Nashville cats who helped Dylan reach rare artistic heights, it explores the lasting impact of rock's first double album.

NARRATORS READ THIS!!
Revisado: 04-25-24
Do some research before you read your books. Halstead reads in the story how important the song "Visions of Johanna" is and how much meaning it holds to so many musicians and songwriters. What a great song it is and the effect it had on a generation of people. So, why can't he pronounce it correctly? It's infuriating and hard to get past. It isn't "Visions of Joanna". Have you ever listened to the song? If not then why the f**k are you reading the book about Blonde on Blonde? It should at least be a prerequisite that you listen to the album. You don't have to be a Dylan fan but at least listen to the album and do minimal research. It's an absolutely pathetic reading. The book itself is awesome, if you can find it in text, do so.

I quite enjoyed this. Tom Hanks writes a compelling story. The narration is wonderful and having worked on many a set myself (not as anything in front of the camera) this is so reminiscent of the way these little towns pop up. It really is like a circus.

Historia
In the opening volume of his acclaimed American Revolution series, Nathaniel Philbrick turns his keen eye to pre-Revolutionary Boston and the spark that ignited the American Revolution. In the aftermath of the Boston Tea Party and the violence at Lexington and Concord, the conflict escalated and skirmishes gave way to outright war in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was the bloodiest conflict of the revolutionary war, and the point of no return for the rebellious colonists.

Thorough and Engaging
Revisado: 02-22-23
Philbrick is one of the best at what he does. Weaving in modern sensibilities to help readers understand that this is HISTORY not today. Helping the reader understand what was happening 250 years ago isn’t how we think today but undergirding that with opposing beliefs of things such as slavery and the conundrums we find ourselves in today. By valorizing men who had major faults we understand that humans are complex and hypocritical and we can find ways of admiring them even if we detest some of their actions. This is a wonderful history of a specific beginning to the war, leaving out many of the historical moments we often read about. It also brings out the stories of lesser known revolutionaries like Joseph Warren to better help understand their roles in the conflict.
