More DEI than Story
Revisado: 04-07-25
I get it. You're inclusive. Everyone is gay straight male and female. The constant shoving of this down our throats really takes away from this story. Less pronoun lecturing and more actual story please. What little story there IS in this sequel is dull and everything is overexplained and there is very little action 10 hours in. You basically did a cast reset and failed to make me care abour your new characters and made me dislike the ones that survived rather than like them more. Hane was great in book one, a silent badass with a soft side for animals. Now theyre just 'eww dont touch or talk to me, I know im a they'. Andrew Rowe gave you a gift to use this amazing universe and you've just used it as a platform for your political beliefs rather than tell a good fantasy story. I listen to fantasy to escape reality, not to be saturated by the authors personal beliefs. Narration is good but the male and female narrator should've have split 50/50. The female narrator is talented but with a perspective shifting ensemble story like this it got difficult to tell people apart at times. Overall a huge letdown and a downgrade from the first entry of this series which is a shame because this universe is fantastic.

Humanity stands at the brink of extinction. Earth has been bombarded by forces beyond our understanding. In the aftermath, monsters roam the Earth while humanity is forced into a few small safe zones, but not all is lost. When the shadows fell, so too did hope. Progentitor rays birthed a new breed of humans, known as supers. Now those few are all that stands between mankind and death upon the claws and fangs of monsters.

2 hours in and WAY too much about "Kara". I don't care. Move the story along.
Revisado: 05-08-24
Pretty much the title. I get it, You want to establish a character who will be important later or whatever. But being forced to listen to an entire chapter on an in depth background with a billion unnecessary details was annoying enough to make me come here, write a review, not listen to the remaining 73 hours of this omnibus, and get a refund. Break it up, I won't be finishing your series.

In a world full of superpowers, Felix had a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. At least, that was until Felix leveraged a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give himself a great deal of points.

Three Chapters in and its Already Trash
Revisado: 12-19-23
Unless you just hit puberty and became a furry, stay away. Not sure why I even bothered giving this installment a try. I am really disappointed in how you ruined your worlds Will. Go get laid or take a cold shower. Your smaller head is ruining your larger one's capability of writing. Nick, it's never ok to voice a character like you do Andrea. It's harsh, annoying, and is equally responsible for making me quit this book as Will's writing. Terrible all the way around.

Anything Good Drowned Out By Harem Filler
Revisado: 12-13-23
Every other sentence or paragraph is poorly written cringe harem filler. This entry made me start hating characters I liked like Andrea and Nick Podehl only added to this by voicing her so annoyingly. Maybe that's his point but either way I don't care. As a listener I don't ever want to hear long annoying whines and screeches. Bad decision here Nick. Terrible writing here William. The world building is interesting enough if not a bit disconnected at places but seriously my guy, you're entering Alpha World level of harem cringe ruining your good story. At this rate you'll surpass it and I'll end up skipping whole books like I did Fractured Spirit. Stop channeling your inner 40 year old suppressed virgin who just downed an entire bottle of little blue pills and just discovered incognito mode on his internet browser. I really hope the next book shapes up.

Way Too Much Harem Filler
Revisado: 11-27-23
Way way way too much about Andrea's identity crisis. It does nothing to serve the story and is just terrible filler. Same with Miyu. The gimmicks are getting old and we don't need the backstory for every single episode someone in Felix's harem has. The characters have already been well established over the last three books. Move the story along. I'm sick of hearing about every time Miyu shivers and acts insane when Felix looks at her and sick of hearing about Andrea arguing with herself in her own head with her multiple personalities. Seriously getting burned out with it, if it continues at this level ill likely drop the series. Goldie and Faith are nice additions. Feels like the author didn't like how he established Felix's power and used the nonsense ending of the last book (seriously? it's the 100th all of a sudden but this time it's just randomly the end of the world? Also Wahl suddenly had a huge army at the end even though they were broke and couldn't even run their own police? Huge huge plot holes here my guy ) to establish a new world to rework it and I've got some mixed feelings. There is definitely a lot of creativity in the series which is why I've stuck with it, but there are huge nonsensical plot holes everywhere and way too much focus on certain things that don't matter. I don't need an in depth description of the eyes of every person the MC encounters. We get it, Miyu is crazy and Andrea has identity issues. Why do I have to listen to everyone's point generation every time Felix checks his balance? Just give us the totals. While creative, the writing and structure leaves a lot to be desired.

MC is Stupid
Revisado: 06-25-22
Oh there are slimes actively attacking my party? Let me narrate what's happening for 15 minutes while my tank dies and I deal with memories of being bullied in high school. *Crying* what can I dooooo? Why does it take the MC 20 minutes to remember he has a spell and that's the whole point he's down there? Like really? Is Sam supposed to be this stupid? This scene was so poorly written I needed to come review the book immediately. I might update it if I finish and it gets better but so far extremely boring and the MC is so stupid and uninteresting that it's a struggle to keep listening.
Nick Podehl is a great narrator as always however.

Historia
Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns. The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most.

Change Title from Inflame to Aspects
Revisado: 06-23-22
Love the series and love the author. Hate that there are entire chapters where every other word is aspect. The creation of an entirely new crafting system that only MC uses was entirely unnecessary and takes a lot away from this book. I enjoy the steampunk golem Dwarves vs the magical nature Elves foundationally but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Also an entire book where so many of the characters we've grown to love are entirely missing really sucks.
Joe's skill growth choices are boring and his character is following the same path. The crafting is far too long winded and overly specific and it feels like filler rather than character growth. Havoc and his brother are great additions to cast though. There are a lot of good laughs in these pages.
Dakota if you ever read this review, please less extremely specific repetitive internal monolog and more error generating deliberate shenanigans. Ruthless was sure to be hard to follow up to and this was just a miss. Still some good stuff but too much filler. Also, while the voice acting is superb, the fact that every chatacter but the MC had those ridiculous and sometimes hard to understand accents makes it an unpleasant listening experience.
Looking forward to Invent and hope it redeems Inflame.

Historia
The Path to Peace brought them to the gates of the old city. Now Alburet and his friends will need to find their way into the vaults under the city. They will need to bypass the undead and the cultists that roam the city to even find those tunnels, and that’s only the start of the troubles they will face. Traitors to Stormguard are uncovered, and the King will have to be told. That can only happen after they deal with the two quests that have brought them this far.

Finally! Alpha World at its Best!
Revisado: 06-06-22
Much MUCH better than the last three books. This is the Alpha World I love! I'm so glad I slogged through the several books of unnecessary neckbeard white knight harem BS to get to this gem. The twists and world building in this one are top notch.
Listen to 1 and 2, read the cliff notes of books 3, 4 and 6, skip 5 all together, and then listen to this one like 5 times.
Going into the finale stoked but sad knowing it's the end.

Life in Alpha World has been a blessing for Alburet, more then he had ever thought it could be, and still more then he thinks he deserves at times. With allies and friends all around him, and the love of three beautiful, unique women, he knows that this might be the best life has to offer. But all of life has complications, and his are many and varied. A quest from the Overlord requires he level as quickly as he can for the "End Game", or risk losing all the happiness he has found.

Better But Sick of Fluffball
Revisado: 06-04-22
Looks like Dainel took the criticism of books 4 and 5 and finally got back to the story instead of cuddles, soft kisses, and constant orgies with the MCs succubus harem and the stupid bullahit not VRMMO story. It's still sprinkled in there but not nearly as bad as the last two books. Still extremely sick of Fluffball as a character and the constant sexual focus on her. It's creepy and not enjoyable or deep in the slightest. Keep your taking advantage of a vulnerable woman furry white knight neckbeard bullshit on your blog.
Big improvement and the actual game story as the party makes their way to the city of Peace is excellent and the only reason I still listen to this series. Also Imp Storm is great!

Went from great LITRPG to horrible character story
Revisado: 05-26-22
This series started out fantastic. A little bit of harem elements in the first 3 entires that werent too dominating, but from book 4 on it went maybe 30% of the story actually about the game, 20% of the story about how the MC was constantly just having sex as the sex god of all sex gods with repeating sex jokes constantly with all the women ever, to 50% diving into people's dreams to convince all the people in the series that were raped or their family died, or some other major tragedy after tragedy that they were pretty so please have sex with me. It's absolute nonsense that pulls you away from what was a great LITRPG experience.
Extremely disappointed. My breaking point where I dropped the series was when the story skipped an entire dungeon to "we killed the Langastor boss in a few minutes after taking the portal to the lake, now heres an hour of dreams where we show another huge "twist" of a tradegy to our MC. Oh poor MC, his mommy and daddy and friend and fake daughter are all dead. Feel bad for him while he has sex with 19494949292902 women in game". Utter trash.
