Absolutely Worthless
Revisado: 11-03-24
I am honestly lost here. Did someone ask chat gpt topic question, put them into an audio file and call it a study guide. This is not a bad book - it's a scam! Redundant, discombobulated garbage!

Historia
Schopenhauer, the "philosopher of pessimism", makes it very plain that he regards the world and our life in it as a bad joke. But if the world is indifferent to our fate, it doesn't thwart us on purpose. The world's facade is supported by what Schopenhauer calls the Universal Will, blind and without purpose. This Will brings on all our misery and suffering; our only hope is to liberate ourselves from its power and from the trappings of individualism and egoism that are at its mercy.

This has nothing to do with the philosopher
Revisado: 07-09-22
This judgmental Buffon spends more time in an ad hominem attack on the man - with only incidental touchings - on the damn message of the philosopher. Paul Strathern you are an ignoramus!!! No one gives a god damn about your opinions. No one cares what your feeble analysis of men whose chamber pots you are unfit to empty. Yet in fact - you are rather suited to the task of carrier of excrement - since you - in opening your figurative mouth do nothing but sling FECES! You sir - are a pompous inept JACKASS!! You owe me and everyone unfortunate enough to purchase and listen to your drivel - both a refund and an apology! Idiot.

Historia
Discover what it was really like during, and after, the summer of love - and how one remarkable woman survived it all to remain today as vibrant and rebellious as ever. Grace Slick was the original "great rock diva." As the lead singer of Jefferson Airplane, which produced the classics "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love," she was at the forefront of the '60s and '70s counterculture. Now, in her inimitable voice, she offers a revealing portrait of the complex woman behind the rock-outlaw image, and delivers a behind-the-scenes view of rock's grandest stages.

Ya know what - she’s not that interesting
Revisado: 01-28-22
Sure the stories are “cute”
But this was Not A musical genius. She was a sorta pretty girl with a bit of restlessness - an affinity for altered states and a bit of a voice.
There is no wisdom I found in any of these tales.
Grace - you were iconic. A cool lady. But ya know - looking back - what shocked is now droll.
The woman gave us some good music. She created a persona. Bless her
As for the book . Zzzzzzzz
Frankly - but for the celebrity of the crowd - we can (and some have wink ) all do lots of drugs and sex and music and breaking things. Heck we can all even order strawberries.
Ya know - maybe it’s true what they say -

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Ok yes it's a classic but .... (oh amazing performance)
Revisado: 06-13-17
PERFORMANCE IS EXCEPTIONAL!!!
The book??
Well who really cares what is say. This by all accounts is one of the greatest books written in the English language - ever. However - the individual torture of a single individual still strike me as far fetched. And this notion of "ULTIMATE POWER" for the sake of "ultimate power" ... well I'm not sure I get it. Wouldn't the idea get old? The "party" wakes up - beats people into submission - turns them into stepford wives and wakes up the next day to do it again. For what purpose?? Wouldn't it get old. Why not just kill everyone and themselves - really what the heck is the point. Ok - I confess again what the he'll so I know - but the book leaves me thinking there is a lose end. A lose end having to do with human nature. Yes I k is - the party changed human nature but again for what? Who is getting off on the melting of humans into mush - and even if that was a joyous activity for a while - again - for how long can that be fun???
Anyway - glad in"read" the thing and you should too!!

Historia
Hailed as one of the world’s masterpieces of psychological realism, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is the story of a worldly careerist, a high-court judge who has never given the inevitability of his death so much as a passing thought. But one day death announces itself to him, and to his shocked surprise he is brought face-to-face with his own mortality. How, Tolstoy asks, does an unreflective man confront his one and only moment of truth?

A brilliant performance of a brilliant work.

It is impossible to imagine how these Russian authors can dissect and present the essence of human condition - in all of its horror and splendor - such as they do.

Extraordinary!
Revisado: 02-25-16
What did you love best about Crime and Punishment?
Why bother commenting on the work. It is a masterpiece composed by a genius. But, what needs be said is that the narrator - Heald is also a master. Heald is a superior talent who is - as he demonstrates quite without question that he is worthy of the task. The book and the interpretation by Heald were beyond moving!

Exceptional Rendition
Revisado: 01-01-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Hamlet: The Arkangel Shakespeare to be better than the print version?
This is not a reading but an enactment of the play by superb actors with superb vocal talents. All the more importantly, they are clearly Shakespearean trained. They understand what they are saying and their interpretation of the work is most enjoyable
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
As I say, these are experts in every sense of the work.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Please, this is Hamlet. The film would be called ... Hamlet!
