Slow burn but omg so worth it
Revisado: 10-30-24
warning chapter 24 is a doozy. carry a hankerchief with you.
if you want well developed characters with a storyline that is romantic but not lustful and has a learning lesson within a moral core read/listen to this book.
so many twists that you are left so satisfied by the end.

Historia
He's next in line to rule the Irish mob, and he’ll do anything to make me his. I’ve been sheltered from the dangers of my family’s criminal activity for most of my life, but when one mistake puts me in debt to the Irish, I have no choice but to accept responsibility and agree to their demands. As Declan MacKenzie’s fiancée. Rumors paint the notorious womanizer as ruthless, wicked and devastatingly handsome. But I don’t know what to believe. You see, I’ve actually run into the Irish mobster before. The Declan I met was intelligent, a fellow art lover, and undeniably gorgeous. ...

good of you wanna sleep
Revisado: 09-13-24
Very, very slow burn. honestly it dragged on too long but it helped as a sleep seductive of sorts. so... I guess unto the next one (for my napping).
I think the AI voice was way too monotone. Humans are still the best for narration.
Regarding the actual characters... umm... yeah. I know this is fictional. But... I just had a hard time connecting to them. I really couldn't empathize with anyone. The mafia boss was too "clean" overall. so, when there was eventful violence it felt fake for him. The FML needs just to be knocked out. she is really really not connecting with me. She was the most ALMOST like a 'Karen" like energy.
plus... it kinda bothers me but not a deal breaker but why is she a red head?! I mean, less than half a percent of the Italian population is naturally red head. but, the darker one (auburn hair?) is the Irish one? 🤨
I know every ethnicity comes in virtually all colors etc. I just think I like celebrating the natural tendency of all regions unless it plays a significant role in the book. This issue isn't a deal killer for me, but when the book drags- I kinda knit pick.

Historia
Written at the request of Charles Dickens, North and South is a book about rebellion that poses fundamental questions about the nature of social authority and obedience. Gaskell expertly blends individual feeling with social concern and her heroine, Margaret Hale, is one of the most original creations of Victorian literature. When Margaret Hale's father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience she is forced to leave her comfortable home in the tranquil countryside of Hampshire....

Definition of Slow Burn
Revisado: 01-03-24
Every so often I will venture into a slow burn novel. I love period novels and I enjoy character development.
That being said... this is a most excellent book. I recommend it. 👌
But... be warned ⚠️ .
The ending is very abrupt and doesn't give the reader a proper full ending. 😒
For all the ups and downs I just wanted at least one chapter of more details of the happy ending.
But... it is what it is. I still recommend it because it kept me interested chapter after chapter and it even made me tear up a bit. A novel that can touch on a variety of topics within a time period should ALWAYS be given a honest try.
Abrupt ending but an amazing journey. 👏
