Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Honest and Insightful
Revisado: 09-11-24
The author looks at culture, class, and policy with a perspective that is balanced, researched, and brutally honest. He tells his story of adverse childhood experiences and a trapped socioeconomic class that could have held him back in life, and how, partly through his hillbilly grandparents, he overcame and triumphed. He addresses social issues with the realization that it takes both policy and family life for lasting change to happen.

Informative
Revisado: 06-24-24
Great info on the different symptoms AS can cause. My husband was recently diagnosed and it is good to know that he doesn't have multiple health issues such as GI problems and psoriasis, but that those are symptoms of AS. Enjoyed the diet and supplement recommendations for reducing inflammation. Not so convinced on the essential oils. Biggest complaint is the narration, this book is read by a robot and it's terrible.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Insightful and Creative
Revisado: 06-22-24
Who would have thought that interventions as simple and fun as drama and music could increase collaboration, provide social connection, and in an unexplainable way help to heal trauma. The author is very well researched in his field, and has had the freedom in his career to create research in areas that needed development in trauma treatment. Sometimes beyond my knowledge level to understand, but very helpful knowledge that rings true, and some of which is simple and inexpensive to implement.

Insightful, wise, and humerous
Revisado: 05-11-24
Loved every minute of this book. It is so honest and insightful looking into the lives of both the author and her patients while giving them all the time and space they need to change on their own. For being such an honest look at humanity, it is also so interesting and sometimes even funny that it is not a difficult or heavy read at all, it has you never wanting to put the book down. The narrater was the perfect person for this book. Hit the nail on the head in every way.

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

The story is great about a couple of boys and their adventures and written with wit. The narrator did an awesome job of having different voices and dialects for the different characters.

Historia
Eunsun Kim was born in North Korea, one of the most secretive and oppressive countries in the modern world. As a child, Eunsun loved her country...despite her school field trips to public executions, daily self-criticism sessions, and the increasing gnaw of hunger as the countrywide famine escalated. By the time she was 11 years old, Eunsun's father and grandparents had died of starvation, and Eunsun too was in danger of starving. Finally her mother decided to escape North Korea with Eunsun and her sister.

Revisado: 09-04-22
I have never known much about North Korea, so I enjoyed listening to this book to learn more about this mysterious country whose rulers have isolated the country to the point that the rest of the world has almost forgotten about them. Kudos to the author for telling her story and sharing her hardships to tell the rest of the world about the plight of her people. Her courage to escape and to speak up are remarkable.

Love this book! Such an Interesting story. Although the story itself is impossible, the author comes up with scientific explanations and calculations that make journeying to the center of the earth sound believable. The narrator is amazing and the author had a great imagination.

Historia
Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank’s remarkable diary has since become a world classic - a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. In 1942, with Nazis occupying Holland, a 13-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building.

Historia
The origins of Covid-19 are shrouded in mystery. Scientists and government officials insisted, for a year and a half, that the virus had a natural origin, ridiculing anyone who dared contradict this view. Tech giants swept the internet, censoring and silencing debate in the most extreme fashion. Yet it is undeniable that a secretive facility in Wuhan was immersed in genetically manipulating bat-coronaviruses in perilous experiments. And as soon as the news of an outbreak in Wuhan leaked, the Chinese military took control and gagged all laboratory insiders.

Investigative and Bold
Revisado: 05-05-22
This is an investigative and bold look into the origins of the Covid 19 virus. It is honest, fearless, and doesn't take into consideration political correctness or political sides in the quest for truth. Very informative read. It is a little bit of a long read with the length and amount of names and detail, but I appreciate the efforts to provide accurate information that can be hard to uncover.
