Technically good writing, as usual. That’s something not all that common now days. The world building is solid. Where this book falls short is its tendency to bog down. It could have been a hundred pages shorter and been a much tighter, better flowing story. Still worth reading to finish out the series.

The stories were entertaining and I enjoyed the listen. The reason I only gave it three stars is twofold. First, the continuity between the different stories/books is terrible. Sometimes it didn’t match from chapter to chapter. If that sort of sloppy writing doesn’t bother you, then you’ve got no worries with this audiobook (except maybe my second point). Secondly, the reader was constantly inconsistent. It seemed like there were multiple readers, even though there is only one person credited. It was enough to sometimes distract from the story.

Good voice acting. Entertaining overall, but filled with a lot of Hollywood cliches. If you are going to write about something, at least do some research. It is not hard to find out about the law or crab fishing. That one, half watched episode of Deadliest Catch was not enough.

Good Story, Unnecessary Bashing of Religion

As usually, an entertaining, well written story by Neal Asher. And as usual he sometimes plays fast and loose with basic laws of physics to further his story. What I take umbrage with is his bashing of religions (not just in the books revolving around Masada). Why bother insulting fans who aren’t insulting him. I’m not offended for people who are religious, but I do believe there is wisdom in “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Where is the tolerance and acceptance liberals are always espousing?

I would say this book plodded along at a pedestrian pace, but that would be disparaging to pedestrians everywhere. I offer some advice to the author; bone up on your physics and don’t dive so deep into your thesaurus for a Marvel adaptation.

The book is what I’ve come to expect from this author. Good story, good writing, and very few factual errors. As always his work is entertaining and enjoyable. Now for the elephant in the room, can we get some consistency in narrators? I mean if you want to call it consistently inconsistent, you’re not wrong. Four books and four narrators. It can’t be that difficult, can it?

As usual Dugoni is technically a good writer and he or his editor (or both) did a good job with the editing. However, the book is filled with factual errors that could easily have been researched with internet access and a search engine. There were also various plot holes and several faulty leaps in logic by the characters. Probably the weakest book in the series. But I have to say, overall it was entertaining.

A few clever lines of dialogue here and there, but nothing that would make someone laugh out loud. I did take umbrage with the implication that no one cares about the victims of HIV. More money is spent on HIV research, domestically and abroad, than even cancer.

It brings the series to a satisfying end. The story was good, albeit with some foreseeable incidents that were foreshadowed in the earlier books. In fairness it also had a few unexpected twist. As usual the author is heavy on theoretical physics but light on practical physics. The narration was not as consistent as in previous entries in the series. Overall an enjoyable experience.
