Historia
Murderbot wasn’t programmed to care. So, its decision to help the only human who ever showed it respect must be a system glitch, right? Having traveled the width of the galaxy to unearth details of its own murderous transgressions, as well as those of the GrayCris Corporation, Murderbot is heading home to help Dr. Mensah—its former owner (protector? friend?)—submit evidence that could prevent GrayCris from destroying more colonists in its never-ending quest for profit. But who’s going to believe a SecUnit gone rogue? And what will become of it when it’s caught?

Ridiculous sound effects
Revisado: 03-20-25
The main performer is great. But most of the other characters are “dramatically” added, with all of their different microphone settings, reverb settings, volume settings, whizbang dialectic differences, etc that it’s impossible sometimes to tell what they’re saying. And then there’s the “background“ whistles and bells and taps, and, gawd, I can't go on. Truly awful

Historia
The H.M.S. Leopard pulled into the bay of Pulo Batang looking more like a shabby merchant ship that a man-of-war. The crew had endured a calamitous voyage plagued by gaol-fever, pursued by the Dutch Waakzaamheid, and struck by an iceberg. Suffice it to say, Jack Aubrey was ready for home.

Unparalleled storytelling of the British Navy on the Napoleonic high seas. Full of compelling friendships and utter perfection of language. The finest series of books I've ever read.

Historia
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Loud background music

The loud idiotic music that plays the last 30 seconds of every chapter was frustrating. I could barely make out the words that conclude the chapter. Narrator is excellent

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Dumas’ 1000 pages produces a tapestry so intricately, so vividly woven that a listener becomes part of it. Homewood’s narration of every character is perfect. I’m saddened beyond words that it’s over.

Imagine that McDonald knew this was his last McGee book. How would he summate Travis’ life? I heard his last words and envisioned a multitude leaping to their feet, screaming a rapturous ovation, insane applause reverberating into the rafters.

Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

Campbell Scott’s reading is extraordinary.
Revisado: 05-28-21
Hemingway’s opus is a love story enfolded in a tale of revolution. Scott’s choice of voice for each character is perfectly balanced inside the book’s swirl of tenderness and brutality. Writer and narrator bring their best in this performance, and it’s thrilling to hear.
