Historia
The island fishing village of Eastport has plenty of salty local character. It also has a sweet side, thanks to Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree, her best friend Ellie, and their waterfront bake shop. This summer, Eastport's favorite lovebirds, kindergarten teacher Sharon Sweetwater and Coast Guard Captain Andy Devine‚ are getting married. The gala reception is sure to be the fête of the season, especially with a wedding-cake-sized whoopie pie. But the celebratory air, and sweet smell of success‚ are ruined by foul murder.

Historia
The complete Samantha Moon Origins trilogy of vampire mysteries, including: NEW MOON RISING (Book #1) Samantha Moon hadn't always been a vampire. Once, she had been a wife and mother, happily married to her soul mate and raising two adorable kids. She had also been a federal agent investigating a world teeming with sophisticated scams, drugs, human trafficking and violence. She had hippie parents and a caring sister. She had a small home with an irritatingly detached garage. She had friends, colleagues and normalcy. That is, until she caught the eye of something evil... But first, she had a...

Nothing like a Vampire Mamma to Find a Missijg Child
Revisado: 07-13-24
Other then the AI reading OR like or and PI like pie and a few other abbreviations, it was read well. Well, also, the voice didn't grow masculine for male voices like a human reader would do. This book was actually better to me than the 1st. I'll gladly continue listening.

Historia
When Emily Lane isn’t busy running her charming Christmas-themed store, “Under the Mistletoe”, located in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, she finds herself compelled to investigate not so quaint local murders. On the surface, Emily is a perfectly lovely, good-natured puzzle-solver and mystery lover. But she is hiding a secret past from everyone in town. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective-Constable Sam Wilner, a smart and attractive cop—with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited—begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

The End Was Worth The Wait
Revisado: 12-14-23
Oh, my! Wow! At 1st, I listened at a higher speed to finish by book group. Then I kept increasing the speed because I needed to know what happened next. So intricate. Several generations. Multiple locations. And good medicine. More, it was read by the author. So good!
I read My Own Country in the 1990's. I read it again years later, because I liked it so much. I don't read books multiple times, because there are too many good books to get to.
I hope you like it as much as I do!

Perimenopause and menopause experiences are as unique as all of us who move through them. While there’s no one-size-fits-all, Heather Corinna tells you what can happen and what you can do to take care of yourself, all the while busting pernicious myths, offering real self-care tips - the kind that won’t break the bank or your soul - and running the gamut from hot flashes to hormone therapy.

Perfect for me!!!
Revisado: 06-16-22
I so needed this! Heather (they/their) affirmed my concerns and realities of perimenopause. They spoke to my soul about this normal event of millions of women around the world. I feel normal, validated, and understood because of this book by Heather Corinna.
PS: It's okay to skip chapter 2. It's the gruesome history of menopause and the treatments for it. They cover the concepts in less upchucking ways in other chapters.

But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

I'm more traditionally a lover of cozy mysteries. This was a bit more intense, but I really got into it. I look forward to the rest of the series. The character development brought them to life in my mind's eye. The content of the character of the "good guys" enticed me to continue listening, and I'm glad I did.

An adventure with lots of travel between states and across Michigan. I love that it includes beautiful places in Michigan. The characters keep me coming back too. This was super sad as to the killer and why he killed. Heartbreaking all the way around.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Interesting ... Not Easy, Enjoyed Ending.
Revisado: 03-04-21
Interesting. I didn't particularly like the sound of the voice reading it, but it did keep my interest after the first couple of hours ... (I struggled before that).
Not something I enjoyed, but I'm sure there is truth in it. I did like the ending ... very much.

For as long as ZJ can remember, his dad has been everyone's hero. As a charming, talented pro football star, he's as beloved to the neighborhood kids he plays with as he is to his millions of adoring sports fans. But lately life at ZJ's house is anything but charming. His dad is having trouble remembering things and seems to be angry all the time. ZJ's mom explains it's because of all the head injuries his dad sustained during his career.

Wow! So much for a child to experience.
Revisado: 03-04-21
Wow. This is a hard book, but also told at a level I believe the intended audience can understand. It was written while the understanding that contact sports can cause massive brain injuries that are irreversible was being discovered (or, really, acknowledged).
This young boy didn't understand what was happening to his dad. His dad was this famous football player who was loving and fun, but then he turned into an angry man with constant head pain. As a child, he just wanted his dad to be who he was. But that cannot be with this type of brain injury.
I love that she incorporated song writing and music in it. A terrible truth told beautifully.

Historia
Raised in South Carolina and New York, Woodson always felt halfway home in each place. In vivid poems, she shares what it was like to grow up as an African American in the 1960s and 1970s, living with the remnants of Jim Crow and her growing awareness of the Civil Rights movement. Touching and powerful, each poem is both accessible and emotionally charged, each line a glimpse into a child's soul as she searches for her place in the world.

Childhood told in Poetry
Revisado: 03-04-21
Snippets of a childhood. A brown girl's childhood. Family issues. Childhood issues. From a child's perspective. Beautifully told. I listened to the audio, so I got to hear the songs. That brought the story more to life and tied the snippets together.
