Historia
New York Times and number one Audible.com best-selling author Jeremy Robinson takes listeners on a journey that is not only action-packed, but full of scientific and philosophical intrigue. In his most mind-bending story since Infinite and Alter, Robinson blends genres, belief systems, and bold prose into an unputdownable tale exploring the nature of reality.

NPC
Revisado: 10-25-22
NPC is essentially the intermediary book between Infinite and Infinite2 but it is nothing like those books. Jeremy Robinson has woven together 3 separate series into one larger series. Those individual series are made of books that are far less tightly woven in relation to each other than I am used to and to get the full effect I am restarting all of them in their various orders to get the larger picture. Like a picture within a picture as seen through a kaleidoscope. NPC is a good book. It started with one mess and ended with another. The characters are interesting and flawed and the way the plot unfolds... well, it made me appreciate the type of book it was. It left so many questions when looking at it from the aerial perspective of the greater series. At worst, this is a wild ride. And at best, this is a work of madness bordering on contented lunacy. So I am in for the long-haul.

I thought Infinite was a rather interesting start to the Infinite Series within the larger Infinite Timeline Series. It got a tad repetitive in some places, but it finished really well and the ideas could be carried anywhere as the series progresses

Infinite2
Revisado: 10-25-22
OK, this book started well and then, for me at least, it digressed into infinite repetition. I am a huge fan of Jeremy Robinson stories, but this one grated on me about half way through and even the small revelations and surprises were not enough to bring me back. I am really interested in seeing how this larger series progresses. I am going to re-read Others and go through that whole side of the Infinite Timeline Series.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

I was considering letting my kids listen to the audio book so I went through this book once again. Still love it, still cannot say it is ok to read for them. There is... just... too much there. This book is rough and raw and seen through the eyes of a father previewing it for his kids, it takes on a new horror stance for me. Man, nothing King has done has had the impact of IT for me. Just from a purely creeped out and grrrrr feeling.

The Huntsman of Corvinus
Revisado: 10-25-22
I think this book was good. I had the whisper soft version so I was reading the ebook at times and listening to the audio book at times... there were good and bad things from both. This is my second book by Timothy Bryan. I felt like this one was less laid out. There was a lot of character interaction that seemed unnecessary to me and it distracted from the story. As the truth starts to unfold, I thought it got muddled again. There were just parts to this book that made me feel a little confused.
That said, the locations, the descriptions, and the tension in places was very well done. It was certainly an interesting antagonist.

Historia
New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last forty years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.

The Lesser Dead
Revisado: 10-25-22
I loved this book. It has set me on a path to reading at least 4 of Christopher Buehlman's books now. This was a funny, odd, and sometimes gross origin and coming-of-age story of a vampire. But it was more than that, I am certainly not giving it justice. This was a book that brought some life into the genre for me. I was expecting a ho hum sort of retelling of perhaps Interview with the Vampire, but this was done in a way that enabled me to imagine I was there experiencing the turmoil, the mystery, the turning, and the dying. I got the audio book read by Christopher Buehlman and he did a masterful job. I have had poor experiences with authors reading their own works but this was one of the best I have heard. He captured the voices and the moods so perfectly that it just sucked me into the story. I don't want to spoil the tale so I will finish by saying that if you want to really enjoy a vampire book and you like audio books, get this book. There are only a few authors for me that demand an urgency to read through their portfolio, but he is one of them IMO. I loved every minute of it.

Historia
Failed academic Frank Nichols and his wife, Eudora, have arrived in the sleepy Georgia town of Whitbrow, where Frank hopes to write a history of his family's old estate - the Savoyard Plantation - and the horrors that occurred there. At first, the quaint, rural ways of their new neighbors seem to be everything they wanted. But there is an unspoken dread that the townsfolk have lived with for generations. A presence that demands sacrifice.

Those Across the River
Revisado: 10-25-22
Well this is stop two on my tour through some of the works of Mr. Buehlman. This book was so good. It was part southern gothic, part love story, part gory mess of horrific debris. There are things in the woods across the river and they need to be respected. This book started slowly. And that was perfect. Lots of reflection. Lots of meeting the characters and finding out if you liked them or not, and then changing your mind. Then came the walk in the woods and it turned fast. I really thought I had a handle on where the tale would take me. It went in almost the same direction, but on a very different path... and it made a mess along the way. There are some scenes that will stick in my head for a while and that is a sign of a good read for me. The aforementioned first walk in the woods and the turmoil set in motion by the shovels. I do not want to give anything here. It is an experience worth having if you enjoy a good, creepy, and macabre book about a man and a woman living in a small town near a river on the good side of a place you do not want to be after dark.

Remember that car that passed you near midnight on Route 66, doing 105 with its lights off? You wondered where it was going so quickly on that dark, dusty stretch of road, motor roaring, the driver glancing out the window as he blew by. You just saw the founder of the Suicide Motor Club. Be grateful his brake lights never flashed. Be grateful his car was already full.

The Suicide Motor Club
Revisado: 10-25-22
The Suicide Motor Club was a fun read. It was a successor (I think, if not in truth then in spirit) to The Lesser Dead. The way this guy writes is refreshing. There is less blah, blah, blah then I am used to with the horror genre and more of the type of story telling that draws the reader into the experience. I don't feel like I am reading about something that already happened, but I am watching the details unfold and experiencing them first-hand. For me, this is the type of writing I look for. This book was different than the other books I read from Christopher Buehlman in that it was relatively straightforward. There is always... something more to the tale with this writer, but this book was less about "how can I screw with the readers' heads" and more of a tale of consequence wrapped in bloody paper and topped with soul-searching. This was great and I will probably be reading/listening to it again in the future.

The Playground
Revisado: 10-13-21
3 very different tales that were completely unique. I thought the title story, "The Playground", was a really cool narrative that was just a very interesting take on missing children. The "Crack in the Wall" was weird and enjoyable. "Bossman" started out pretty dull for me, but it ramped up in the most delightful way and the ending was perfect IMO. I loved the fact that there was not even an attempt to explain any of these events, classic short story format that leaves the reader pondering well after reading.
I was given this book for my unbiased review.

10 Big Questions of the American Civil War
Revisado: 10-12-21
My son and I listened to this while I took him to and from school. He loves history and the civil war era is especially interesting to him. We learned a lot and have a lot of little places to take our studies now. I thought the information was really well laid out and useful. It made me rethink some particular parts of that time period and I feel like it really sparked more interest for both of us, which is ultimately what you want from a book like this.
