Would be great movie
Revisado: 06-06-24
I don’t often think that about books but one would. I found these authors through my primary search choice of Time Travel and now have just about all.
I don’t care for virtual reader and it did have negative impact in areas but the story is definitely five star.

I don’t like virtual voice but am getting used to it so I gave it a little higher rating. I can definitely sleep to it as it is like having someone sitting there reading a bedtime story. The pronunciation definitely needs tweaking. I hope the authors will go back to living narrators when they are able.

A kid walks into your bookstore and says to you, Guess what? I'm your son. The one you put up for adoption seventeen years ago. The one you never told anyone about. Surprise! His name is Matthew Walker, and he's come to spend the summer on the Cape with his parents. Why? Well, he wants to meet you before he heads off to college in the fall. Tiny detail—he didn't tell his adoptive parents about his plan. And while you hoped this day would come someday, you're so stunned, you actually faint.

Fulfilling
Revisado: 03-05-24
This book was off my normal path but it was just what I needed. I needed some time in something heartfelt that wasn’t sappy. So many realistic situations with realistic emotions and was long enough to allow healing and resolution with believable outcomes. I will try another of hers I believe!

Historia
Focus on your breath and let the low and powerful reverberations of crystal bowls wash over you. Studies have shown these humming sounds allow your brainwaves to slow and shift from an active to relaxed state - a perfect precursor to deep sleep. In order to get the most out of your listening experience, pioneering sound therapist Sara Auster recommends you dim the lights and lie down or sit in a comfortable position with an eye mask and a blanket, silence any alerts or notifications, and use earphones.

Need these all together
Revisado: 01-12-23
Yes some of these sound like being stuck in a bell but I have used sound for decades and it’s what is needed. The reason these don’t get 5 stars from me is that I, myself, need these for sleep and she speaks at the beginning of each thereby breaking sleep cycles. If she has these in tandem without speaking between them or in extended form then please point me in that direction!

Historia
Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd. After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?

I loved it
Revisado: 12-31-22
I had been tempted to get this for a while and am glad I finally did. It had great detail and despite what some reviews have said it IS believable, so much so that I would love to read the author’s research notes. I love the epilogue and how the author tied up some emotional loose ends. And there was a surprise twist. The narrator was excellent which is always a bonus.

I enjoyed this.
Revisado: 04-03-19
One advantage to having the author narrate is the she knows the exact emotion behind the words so they are said with the exact tone and influx that they should have. It makes the story richer.
I was quickly sucked in to this story and it held my interest all through.

This is my favorite of all of them.
Revisado: 04-22-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Lady of Milkweed Manor to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version but I prefer all audio to print because I have a 30 minute drive to and from work. I never have time at home to read either and can use audio books to get me through the doldrums of housework.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Well the heroine of course, she gave up so much for her son and the ache was so deep but was still able to love Ann. I also liked Sally. She seemed like a lovable person.
Any additional comments?
Some of the reviews of this are that it is too morose but I don't see it that way. I think it's good to have some insight to that side of life. It happened. There was no welfare to help these women and their children as there is now.

Mixed response
Revisado: 06-19-07
I love these stories and know this one almost by heart so I found it unpleasant for the reader to be changing the wording and paraphasing, adding to and leaving out etc. Also the reader has a very pleasant voice when she just reads but when she tries to alter her voice for the character it doesn't work. For example she has the 19 year old main character sounding like a feeble old lady. It would be so much better if she just read it in her own pleasant voice and read it word for word. It is supposed to be unabridged after all.
