Historia
It’s early fall when a heatwave descends on Los Angeles. Private Detective Philip Marlowe is called to the Montgomery estate, an almost mythic place sitting high on top of Beverly Hills. Wealthy socialite Chrissie Montgomery is missing. Young, naïve, and set to inherit an enormous fortune, she’s a walking target, ripe for someone to get their claws into. Her dying father and his sultry bottle-blonde girlfriend want her found before that happens. To make sure, they’ve got Anne Riordan—now head of her own all-female detective agency—on the case, too.

I would swear that this was a.i. attempt at Raymond Chandler. Complete waste of time and money. really cheesey, lesbian, and stupid. Absolute terrible book.

Historia
Originally published a decade ago and now expanded, this book is a homage to the greatest detective story writer of the 20th century, an Anglo-American who took Los Angeles, his adopted home, off the road maps and into the land of legend. For Raymond Chandler, who died in 1959, his literary descendants will do just about anything, and that includes contributing to an anthology honoring him. Thus, in here we find the likes of Sara Paretsky, Robert Crais, Loren D. Estleman, Jonathan Valin, Robert Campbell, Eric Van Lustbader, Simon Brett, Julie Smith, Jeremiah Healy, Roger L. Simon, James ...

Solid but unspectacular Westlake novel.
Revisado: 12-28-24
Certainly not bad but not his best work. It's mildly enjoyable and entertaining. Do not think through any of the story, as clearly the writer or the main character didn't. Not to mention the over abundance of introspection in complex situations. No one that has been in these kinds of situations waste time worrying about their relationship issues while their life or freedom are at stake. Like I said don't overthink any of it or you will feel unsatisfied at best and annoyed.

Historia
The men in the tan-and-cream Chrysler came with guns blazing. When Ray Kelly woke up in the hospital, it was a month later, he was missing an eye, and his father was dead. Then things started to get bad. From the mind of the incomparable Donald E. Westlake comes a devastating story of betrayal and revenge, an exploration of the limits of family loyalty and how far a man will go when everything he loves is taken from him.

ok
Revisado: 12-26-24
It was alright, not especially outstanding or bad, just ok. Simple story that is pretty easy to guess the "twist" but is mildly entertaining. I would not be happy paying much for it but free or low cost it is pretty decent. I do enjoy Westlake/Stark books so I may be a little biased.

Hospitalized after a liaison with another man's wife ends in violence, Paul Cole has just one goal: to rebuild his shattered life. But with his memory damaged, the police hounding him, and no way to even get home, Paul's facing steep odds - and a bleak fate if he fails. This final, never-before-published novel by three-time Edgar Award winner Donald E. this is a very unrewarding story, there is no payoff at the end. I love so many Westlake and Stark books but this one was very disappointing.

Historia
Donald E. Westlake is one of the greats of crime fiction. Under the pseudonym Richard Stark, he wrote 24 fast-paced, hard boiled novels featuring Parker, a shrewd career criminal with a talent for heists. Westlake also completed a separate series in the Parker universe, starring Alan Grofield, an occasional colleague of Parker. The Dame finds Grofield in Puerto Rico protecting a rich, demanding woman in her isolated jungle villa, and reluctantly assuming the role of detective.

Not quite as good as the first book but still very good. Parker is probably better but I wish we had more Grofield for a change of pace.

Historia
The 16th Parker novel, Butcher’s Moon, is more than twice as long most of the master heister’s adventures, and absolutely jammed with the action, violence, and nerve-jangling tension listeners have come to expect. Back in the corrupt town where he lost his money, and nearly his life, in Slayground, Parker assembles a stunning cast of characters from throughout his career for one gigantic, blowout job: starting - and finishing - a gang war. It feels like the Parker novel to end all Parker novels, and for nearly 25 years, that’s what it was.
