A good twist
Revisado: 04-21-25
I enjoyed this listen a great deal. Because I was multitasking I think I missed a key detail in the beginning so I missed the twist until I was almost upon it.
Enjoy this!

Still more twists
Revisado: 01-19-25
I really enjoy the growth of the main character in this story. I also enjoy not only her unreliability but others not being forthcoming or “perfect” due to their own insecurities. This makes the characters and therefore the story, much more believable.

Historia
Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

Steady build up

I’m really enjoying this series. Book two builds nicely off book one in a believable story arc. Learning the world with this unreliable narrator is fantastic.

Historia
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

There is so much adventure and tension that builds through the story. A little romance is sprinkled in. The world building is great and the character development is awesome.

This is a great thriller!
I really enjoyed that we knew the outcome )or strongly suspected) from the beginning but the twisting path to get there!
An excellent case study of how awful a genius can be to another human. But my favorite character is the sister. Read it, you’ll see.

Historia
Callie Weaver and best friend Olivia Dixon have finally done it: put their life savings into the beach house they admired through childhood summers, on the dazzling white sand of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. They’re going to buff the salt from its windows, paint its sun-bleached sidings, and open it as a bed and breakfast. Callie’s too busy to think about her love life, but when she catches the attention of local heartthrob Luke Sullivan, his blue eyes and easy smile make it hard to say no.

This book was recommended to me at a virtual (adult) summer camp. I’m glad they did as this was a pleasurable read about a serious topic. The parallel story to Woodstock helped the story not be too heavy and was woven together very well.

This book lived on my TBR for a long time. But once I got through chapter one, it called to me and wouldn’t let me go.
Honestly, the truth at the end, was not what I expected.
