Historia
Out on his own as a surveyor, Major Corbin sleeps under the stars and calls his own shots. As a one-man operation without powers on a space colony with power-abusing supers, this is the life. Nothing lasts forever. The chance discovery of a mysterious substance changes everything when he gains superpowers and learns that it’s the key to saving the colony from an evil that nobody but he knows is coming. The kicker? Gaining powers means waking an ancient being that might be the difference between saving the universe or dying in the process.

Great concept, terrible exercise
Revisado: 03-18-23
I moved the idea of combining a superhero book with space opera. This was terrible - the concept was good, but the characters were all dumb as rocks. Blatant bad guys with zero nuance or dimension, stupid over the top and obvious heroes and an overall plot that was just lazy.
The voice acting was good, as usual

Disappointing shift into pure Mary Sue and misogyny
Revisado: 02-20-22
I really enjoyed Quarter Share, which was a refreshing twist on space opera and trading. In that, Ish was exceptional but likeable. It was nice seeing him find his place and his home.
This one just went gross - he turns into a pure douche. Worse, apparently he is an 18 year old that every woman (each apparently more beautiful than the last) lusts after, regardless of their age - including his boss. He loses all his charm as a character and becomes shallow, superficial and boring.

NOT a Guided Meditation
Revisado: 01-08-22
Despite the title, this is not a guided meditation. It's just 30 minutes of spoken affirmations, which in the end are more distracting than sleep-inducing. It's exactly the kind of thing thing that makes me hesitate to download meditation audiobooks -pretty clear it was a quick cash grab rather than serious endeavor.
ETA: Please note that almost all of the 5 star reviews were at the same time and clearly paid, which is something I've seen on a few of these meditation books.
Audible, PLEASE crack down on this practice, it's making the entire genre useless.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

Disappointing and dull
Revisado: 11-16-20
I adored the first three books in this series. This one is just boring, with the barest nod to philosophical questions, lots and lots of filler and an almost complete absence of plot. The narrator did his regular excellent job but there's just not enough in the book to support it.

This isn’t a guided meditation, it is a podcast
Revisado: 02-28-19
I don’t know why audible is advertising this as a guided meditation - two people talking back and forth and and even giving exercises like ‘write down 7 things’ is not a meditation. Glad at least it didn’t cost anything

Poor narration and a mediocre story
Revisado: 02-28-19
First of all, the narrator of this was pretty much the worst I have listened to in maybe 100 audiobooks. His choices of an offensively stupid valley girl accent for almost all female characters and this weird, sing-song surfer tone for two of the main male POVs was ridiculous. These were supposed to be the heroes and they were turned into unappealing, bland messes.
Second, the story was a little incoherent - POV switched around sometimes mid-paragraph and I felt like the author didn’t really know where he was going with this as a story. Worst, the pacing was so inconsistent and most of the time the thirty party motivations made zero sense. Good concept, mediocre execution.

Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Gross, highly unrecommended
Revisado: 01-04-19
This is a misogynistic pile of crap. The women are treated with contempt by both the MC and the author, and it is supposed to be a source of amusement and charm that the MC creepily spies on naked women and pays to have sex with 13/15 year old girls. Naturally, the only ‘strong’ female character is one who practices sex magic - and has no personality behind that.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-04-19
This book is so slow and ponderous, with only brief moments of interest. The 2nd person view is well done and the individual threads have the bones or a great story but there is too much repetitious padding and it’s just a frustrating and at 12 hours in it just felt like it wasted my time.

Historia
Arguably the most important American lawyer of the 20th century, Thurgood Marshall was on the verge of bringing the landmark suit Brown v. Board of Education before the US Supreme Court when he became embroiled in a case that threatened to change the course of the civil rights movement and to cost him his life. In 1949, Florida's orange industry was booming, and citrus barons got rich on the backs of cheap Jim Crow labor with the help of Sheriff Willis V. McCall, who ruled Lake County with murderous resolve....

Engaging and well told
Revisado: 08-06-18
Some nonfiction books are so dry, it can be easy to zone out. That is 100% not the case here. King - and the narrator - did a great job of weaving the narrative together and shedding light on not only the little details, but why they mattered. This is a hard book to listen to because so much of the subject matter is horrifying and ugly, but it should also be mandatory for anyone trying to dismiss the impact of our past on our present.
