Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

May be one of the best novels about childhood ever written.
How funny that he named it, IT. Because what is it? Is he referring to the monster, as all the covers would have you believe? Or something more sublime, more ephemeral, more fleeting- the inevitable loss of our innocence and youth.
Thank you, Mr king for reminding me that I lived another life when I was 11.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Moves rapidly. Fun characters.
The only criticism is that the protagonist is basically a female version of the Martian protagonist, but that's hardly a fault - more like a feature.

Historia
The Emperor of All Maladies reveals the many faces of an iconic, shape-shifting disease that is the defining plague of our generation. The story of cancer is a story of human ingenuity, resilience, and perseverance but also of hubris, arrogance, paternalism, and misperception, all leveraged against a disease that, just three decades ago, was thought to be easily vanquished in an all-out "war against cancer".

Fascinating and powerful
Revisado: 11-05-17
Like a mystery story solved over centuries.
As a cancer survivor I was particularly interested in Thomas Hodgkins and I wasn't disappointed...but Hodgkins is one of many fascinating people and amazing sub-stories within the greater story of the war on the disease that isn't really a disease at all.
There's a slower section about 70% through on public policy that didn't grip me, but still amazing nevertheless.

A clear-sighted revelation, a deep penetration into the world of Scientology by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Looming Tower, the now-classic study of al-Qaeda’s 9/11 attack. Based on more than two hundred personal interviews with current and former Scientologists—both famous and less well known—and years of archival research, Lawrence Wright uses his extraordinary investigative ability to uncover for us the inner workings of the Church of Scientology.

really interesting. it's really two books...a biography of LRH and a description of Scientology.
not as much in the daily lives of 'regular' Scientology members, as i'd like but they are probably prevented from discussing it with anyone.

beautifully written and well narrarated. was told it was too dark and depressing. my book club chose it before I joined and I always wanted to read it.
I liked it a lot. yes, dark. yes, very hard, cold. but also inspiring. a man and his young boy..their dialogue is so well done by the narrator...amazing.
also, a relatively quick one.

Would you try another book from Frances Vick and/or Katherine Manners?
Yes.
What did you like best about this story?
The fact that at the end, everything is wrapped up.
Would you be willing to try another one of Katherine Manners’s performances?
If she could keep her volume steady yes. Otherwise, I'd rather eat broken glass.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

plus, he narrates it himself and he's not the best narrator.
nevertheless, very informative and entertaining.
