As usual great entertainment
Revisado: 11-27-24
The quite over-obvious cliffhanger with the left over assassins and stolen ship was quite unnecessary and could have been wrapped up in this book though. Feels like milking it a bit - smells of Star Wars under Disney

Historia
The fearsome bounty hunter Tyrus Rechs has laid a careful trap to kill an elusive and powerful criminal known as Mister Zauro for crimes orchestrated on the planet Detron. But unbeknownst to the bounty hunter, another trap has been laid just as carefully ... a trap for Tyrus Rechs himself. For Zauro is a Lizzaar, and Lizzaar crime lords are not without their defenses. Rechs is mere moments away from finishing his termination when the counter-trap is triggered. In an instant the tables are turned, the hunter becomes the hunted.

Milking the brand
Revisado: 11-15-24
Enjoyable but this the story doesn’t have enough substance for an entire book. A failed trap and a minor altercation during a maintenance period should be the start of the story, not the story itself. The books in Galaxy’s Edge have never been long, but this is the first time I felt that they are just milking the brand, Disney style.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

Excellent reading of a wonderful oddity
Revisado: 08-26-24
Strange but intimate and wonderful and an absolute humdinger of a performance by Patrick as a narrator.

Historia
From TheReadingCafe.com: "the characters are diverse, distinctive and unconventional but such are the personalities of every entertaining story of science fiction. CORVUS ASCENDING begins slowly but accelerates at 'warp speed'." Wisecracking star-sailor Gus Johansson’s beach bum retirement suddenly goes from boring to blazing when he pulls a 1400-year-old robot and a sentient spaceship from the sea. Soon, Gus and his crew of misfits are in the fight of their lives against an old enemy. The vengeful Captain Harrison “Hazy” Grey is convinced he can finally get his Admiral’s flag by ...

Good book, below par automated narration
Revisado: 05-06-24
The book is really good, but the automatic narration still wrestles with some serious authenticity issues: Emphasis on certain syllables and words in certain situations, especially when people are under stress, is just not there. This makes the narration really flat and so annoying in the long run I had to stop listening even though i liked the book.

Historia
Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place. Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan. Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie. But becoming a supervillain isn't all giant laser death rays and lava pits.

Good story, one dimensional reading
Revisado: 12-07-23
Excellent book. The reading wasn't bad, it's just that there are so many great people around these days and this guy is only OK at differentiating between people, actually bad at accents and has Cali 15yo ("one time...at band camp") way of talking that is slightly annoying. But this is my personal view, other views are available.

Good book but bad details
Revisado: 04-08-17
Loved the book as a whole but details that don't check out annoyed me all through it. In Africa you don't have automatic gearboxes for your cars, the use of American units of measurement in the wrong places etc. Even if these are minor details, this kind of book is a detail-driven affair...so a four will have to do.
I really liked the narrator. It was easy to distinguish between characters and the pace and dialects were reasonably good.

Good story, mediocre narrative
Revisado: 10-08-15
I really liked the beginning of the book, but the end wasn't as climactic as you would expect. After 100s of pages you would expect a Brandon Sanderson-ish explosion of a finish, but the author just seem to wrap it up and go home unfortunately. Having said that, the book is a very good one, well worth the time reading.
The narrator, whilst very competent, is not a storyteller and he uses more or less the same voice and dialect for all characters at all times, which is confusing and gets annoying when there are plots and subplots to unravel.
In short, liked it a lot but it doesn't quite reach the level of top tier authors like Sanderson or Jordan.
