Remember what I hate about the main character
Revisado: 02-07-25
Prickly character who suddenly puts together a story without giving clues so the reader could make their own conclusions. Character puts other characters into trouble, then uses new things found out to make out she is the smartest person in the room. She does get those others back out of trouble and they are so grateful but she was wrong to begin with. Reader is not told of all these new things until the last part of the story. Will be my last book.

Different twist on a espionage book
Revisado: 01-26-25
Like the character, didn’t lose her head but not overly “oh I so smart and clever”. Like the other characters though I hope some characters come back in next book and are explored.

Long romance with bit of mystery
Revisado: 01-21-25
The author’s first book was ok but this book is for romance lovers. It is overly long, finally getting to a conclusion which is typical. I won’t continue with the series.

Narrator, a computer generated voice ruins what might have been a good story
Revisado: 01-04-25
This might be a good story but the voice used, ruins a lot of it. No pauses where needed, jumps from one character to other without a change in cadence. If Audible comes to use or allow this type of narration, I will be only listening to my older audio books.

A woman lies dead, shot and bleeding. Behind her body stands a large old manor house, her house, and now her son's. She ran the rural estate as a minor fiefdom, all had to subjugate themselves to her will, or they were put out of their homes and ejected from the community. Lady Compton was hated, nobody mourned her passing, but her murder brought suspicion and dismay to the closely allied village, and it brought the police into their midst.

Not as good as the Heathcliff series

Trying hard to like this series and that it would get better with each book. I will listen to the other series repeatedly but just not finding the stories or characters interesting. Might be my last book in this series

Not in line with the times, very clever detective but not from the 1930s. Narrative was good. Set in 1950 or 1960, would have been better.

Where is the ending? Is Audible going to fix the Audiobook or give us all back a credit? No author would end a book in this manner; not if she wants to sell more books.

Historia
Autumn, 1921. Lady Eleanor Swift is invited to her old school, St Mary’s, as a guest speaker. Her favorite teacher, Mrs. Wadsworth, has asked that Eleanor talk about her intrepid travels around the globe - travelling the Silk Road by bicycle, crossing the Himalayas and even befriending the Maharaja of India. But in the circumstances, perhaps it would have been a good idea to talk about her career as a daring detective. Because no sooner has Eleanor brushed up on her times tables than she is greeted by terrible news: Mrs. Wadsworth has been murdered.

Ghosts??
Revisado: 08-11-24
She is cute, yet another beautiful rich heiress who no desire to be married surrounded by people with skills no one else has. I listen to audiobooks for a story to entertain me on my long road trips but having the ghost show up, ruined what could have been a good story. I will listen to the next one but if supernatural apparitions keep appearing, telling humans to turn around cars or other things, I am going to move on….

Hard to get to the end
Revisado: 06-01-24
Narrator made the Inspector appear to be slow witted; the heroine did stupid things. The ending was far-fetched. Old idea of ugly duckling turning into a swan used in plot. Not sure why others liked the story. Maybe if I read it rather than listening, I might like the story.

Revisado: 02-29-24
Decent story but narrator using horrible voices ruins it. I bought the two stories with this narrator before I heard one. I have only gotten a third of the way through and thinking of asking for a refund. Then buy the book to read rather than listen.
