Historia
The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 dawned what Francis Fukuyama called “The End of History.” Three decades later, Jim Sciutto said on CNN’s air as the Ukraine war began, that we are living in a “1939 moment.” History never ended—it barely paused—and the global order as we have known it is now gone. Great powers are reinvigorated and determined to assert dominance on the world stage. And as it escalates, this new order will affect everyone across the globe.

Advocates geopolitical business as usual from a left center perspective.
Revisado: 12-28-24
Decent read, albeit advocating geopolitical business as usual from a left center perspective. Book acknowledges changing world order, but offered limited perspective on way forward beyond status quo and talking points of the Obama/Biden administrations. There is a palpable distain for Trump both as the 45th POTUS and 2024 presidential candidate. While much of the criticism of Trump is deserved, the book utterly fails to take into consideration some of Trump points such as forcing Europe to take on responsibility for its own defense. The book seems to be heavily influenced by interviews with Biden's National Security advisor Jack Sullivan and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

Historia
Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote...and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Historia
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Historia
In The Cold War, Odd Arne Westad offers a new perspective on a century when a superpower rivalry and an ideological war transformed every corner of our globe. We traditionally think of the Cold War as a post-World War II diplomatic and military conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. But in this major new work, Westad argues that the conflict must be understood as a global ideological confrontation with roots in the industrial revolution and with continuing implications for the world today.

Interesting overview of Cold War from center-left
Revisado: 02-20-23
Interesting overview of the Cold War, but from a center-left skewed perspective. The tranditional Cold War "villains" (e.g., Stalin, Mao, Brezhnev) are softened and excesses glossed over, while any contribution from Reagan are minimized. Worth a read.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

sweet but laggy story. great narration/performance
Revisado: 12-19-22
the story was not as good as the Martian. I can see why some people struggle with finishing it. it can be very laggy in some places with the science-y stuff. but the characterization is very good. the narrator/performer is excellent. I really enjoyed listening to him.

Historia
In The Madness of Crowds Douglas Murray investigates the dangers of ‘woke’ culture and the rise of identity politics. In lively, razor-sharp prose he examines the most controversial issues of our moment: sexuality, gender, technology and race, with interludes on the Marxist foundations of ‘wokeness’, the impact of tech and how, in an increasingly online culture, we must relearn the ability to forgive.

Thought provoking look at 21st century society
Revisado: 08-16-22
Accessable with a logic that flows resulting in a ballacaced yet fearless analysis of identity politics and where it may lead. Murray's self identification as a gay man adds perspective to the chapters on 'Gay' and 'Trans' which are hard to ignore. the 'Afterwards' on the potential path for society if these decisive trends continue I found sobering if not a bit chilling. A call to move away from hyper- politicalization of our lives seems to be a viable first step. A must read for anyone who wants to explore the issue/s beyond rhetoric. You may disagree with his premise and conclusion, but it will make you think; to me, that is worth the price of admission. My highest recommendation possible.

Fun MI/Bourne-like read
Revisado: 08-09-22
Enjoyable read with very good character development which gave flawled protagonists the opportunity to grow and develop. less grounded than a Tom Clancy, novel with 1 or 2 aspects of the story approaching the fanciful, but overall felt like the author had done sufficient technical reaseach. story and writing kept me engaged until the very end. never felt like the book dragged. I would definitely invest my time and money to read another Will Jordan novel.

Historia
In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows how many well-meaning people have been fooled by hypocritical and inconsistent anti-West rhetoric. After all, if we must discard the ideas of Kant, Hume, and Mill for their opinions on race, shouldn’t we discard Marx, whose work is peppered with racial slurs and anti-Semitism? Embers of racism remain to be stamped out in America, but what about the raging racist inferno in the Middle East and Asia?

Outstanding and well thought out
Revisado: 05-02-22
This is a book that should be read by those on both sides of the CRT issue. For those pushing CRT who are intellectually honest and a want to understand concerns of those who support western ideals, this is a great insight into our souls. For those who embrace the Western culture and have felt bewildered at the neverending attacks and frustration at always being wrong even when you makes moves to see the CRT perspective, this book may make you realize that you are not alone.

Pike is better here than in the show
Revisado: 12-09-21
the book is really good if a bit redundant in places. a very classic heroes quest. I watched the show first, which was abysmal, but Pike is an excellent narrator and voice actress. She really drew me into the story here.
