Should be required for every member of the human race
Revisado: 04-13-25
You’ve listened to his charming and insightful podcasts, and YouTube videos. You think you’ve gotten everything out of it that you can. But this book takes Jefferson Fisher and his advice on having good conversations to a new level. There are probing questions early on in the book that he encourages you to share with a friend. I propose the questions to my boss and was nervous because golly, they were going to be about me and my character and my values. The entire book is like that comma opening you to new realities about how you think, present yourself, cope with fear, cope with confidence or lack there of…
I believe this should be required reading starting in about fifth grade for every student. It’s a book that can be studied in book clubs, church groups, you name it. It is such a common sense approach to communicating better. And hey, isn’t that what it’s all about? Where do we get ourselves in trouble? By saying the wrong thing. Or using the wrong tone. And having people interpret our best intentions into words, we never intended to communicate.
Short and sweet, buy this book for yourself and then buy it for everyone else you know. It is a very important piece of reading. Thank you, Jefferson.

Wanted to like this book…
Revisado: 10-10-24
I want to like a book that has been published because just by the mirror virtue of it being published, it must have merit. But this audiobook set my teeth on edge and I have to say I hated every single one of the characters. I’ve gotten all the way up to chapter 12 and I can’t read another word. Having the devastating affects alone affair, I am really having trouble relating to the people in this book who are so cavalier with the people they concert with outside of their marriages. I know that some people are going to say I needed to finish it and probably I should but right now, I think all these characters are so self-absorbed and self concerned and… I have to stop my reading of this book. I’m really hoping somebody here is going to tell me there’s redeeming value at the end. Right now I just feel like I’m living my own life in the middle of a book and it doesn’t feel very good.

Revisado: 09-28-24
When I first started reading this book, I was a little nervous about the subject matter. I am so glad I stuck with it because it’s got everything. This book is a combination of epic adventure, thriller, philosophical outlook on life, and it’s all spun with words made of magic. Chris Whitaker is simply brilliant.

I love this take on espionage in Great Britain of the last century.
These aren’t your spies. These are crappy rats, left destitute, who figure out a way to make money spying on their peers.
The characters are believable, the romance is wonderful and the plots are intriguing.
It’s not John Le Carré but if you are fans of lady Georgiana and her beloved Darcy, you’ll probably get a kick out of this.
The visuals are wonderful wonderful and I think it would make a great TV series.

A satisfying combination of espionage and romance during World War I
Revisado: 05-06-24
I really love novel centered around World War I. This is not as heavy a book as any written by the fantastic Pat Barker, but it is a nice combination of romance, intrigue, and espionage and World War I Scotland. Without spoiling anything, I can say that the happy ending is believable and very satisfying.

So sad to see it end…
Revisado: 02-06-24
This book is an exquisite place to spend your time. The characters are so well created. You feel like you want to know them. At the end of the book I truly was sad to say goodbye. I wanted to know more.
I w as thinking that it would be lovely if the author would take us up through the 2000s with this incredible family of strong, determined women, and those who came after.
I’m also a fan of the era in which the book is set, the mid 1920s in New York City and New Orleans. All of these women in their own way experience grief and some trauma and the topics are treated with great sensitivity.
Honestly, I didn’t expect to like this book because sometimes, women’s fiction can get just a little too… Silly or soapy or maudlin or just not my cup of tea, let’s say. If you like literary fiction, and you like a deeper read, this book is absolutely beautiful. I really deeply cherish it.
Special shout out to the beautiful narrative quality given this book. The narrator was excellent, with a beautiful voice that I could listen to, even if she were reading the phone books.
I am eagerly awaiting this authors next book.

I love a good story involving the law, and have read Philip Margolin, John Grisham, and others in the genre. I found this series by accident and have really enjoyed it. There aren’t that many surprises, but the storyline and the characters are very authentic in my mind.

Revisado: 11-15-23
As an ardent fan of the series, I was thrilled to see another episode in the lives of Strike and Robyn. These books are so well written, and so filled with attention, it is worth the long way in between each book. I was on pins and needles, and then, of course… There’s that romance that is never spoken of. If you haven’t read any of the books in the series, start at the beginning. You’ll love each and everyone and this one did not disappoint.

Great intro to the romance genre.
Revisado: 10-07-23
I learned so much about writing romance in this book. It was really a cool insight into the ins and outs of putting together a good romance. And within all that, there is a great romance. So what I’m trying to say is there is a romance within a movie romance within a real romance… It’s worth of Credit!

I have been sucked into the series
Revisado: 03-16-23
I ran the first in this series because it was offered as part of my membership. It’s not the most literary book I’ve ever read, nor the most intricate in terms of plot, but I found it completely enjoyable, and I have to confess, I am reading them all now. Book 8 is next for me. I think the narrator is excellent and I listen to about six audiobooks a month so I have a lot to compare her to. If you like regency England stories, and you like a nice cozy mystery, all the Agatha Christie, you will enjoy these books. It is really fun to watch somebody solve a mystery without the aid of computers, cell phones, and all the other accoutrements of modern technology.
