Historia
Long considered a master of the form and an essential voice in American fiction, Michael Knight's stories have been lauded by writers such Ann Patchett, Elizabeth Gilbert, Barry Hannah, and Richard Bausch. Now, with Eveningland he returns to the form that launched his career, delivering an arresting collection of interlinked stories set among the "right kind of Mobile family" in the years preceding a devastating hurricane.

Amazing how badly the narrator mispronounced Dauphin Island
Revisado: 02-12-25
Narrator sucked. Couldn't tell when one story ended and another began. Should have used a professional editor.

The horrible narration by AI
Revisado: 11-02-24
A really bad book made worse by horrible AI narration. Save your time and don't bother. Soak your feet, rearanger sock drawer, clean out the refrigerator, or dig a hole for no reason. all of these things will be more enjoyable than listening to this book.

While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.

Boring Trump MAGAt Propaganda
Revisado: 02-14-24
Liked nothing. Save your money. It's drivel with a healthy dose of MAGA propaganda. The story has been told by a dozen other authors without the idolization of a Russian Agent.

Finished It At 150 Speed
Revisado: 05-15-22
It's obvious that the book was written by an English major because we're never allowed to forget it. It would probably be best to drop acid while listening to this book, likely same as the author did when he wrote it.

Revisado: 03-19-22
Terrible characters. No real plot just lots of gore. The lead female character was as about unlikable as any I've ever encountered. Want a book with stupid questions and stupid dialogue, then this is the one for you.

Historia
Beginning in the predawn hours of airports in the Northeast, we meet the ticket agents who unknowingly usher terrorists onto their flights, and the flight attendants inside the hijacked planes. In New York City, first responders confront a scene of unimaginable horror at the Twin Towers. From a secret bunker underneath the White House, officials watch for incoming planes on radar. Aboard the small number of unarmed fighter jets in the air, pilots make a pact to fly into a hijacked airliner if necessary to bring it down.

Okay, but not great.
Revisado: 08-06-21
There are many other better books concerning 9/11. This book has a definite slant toward absolving the Bush administration and the Republican leadership for any blame in the failure to protect the nation prior to 9/11. Republicans in general come across as being the hero here and having lived it, it's simply not accurate.
Moreover, the most disappointing aspect of this book is that the first-hand accounts were so incredibly abbreviated. Some simply didn't need to be there and others seem to be left out.

Unbelievably great book!
Revisado: 07-08-21
Mark Childress is a genius writer in the same vein as southern greats, Faulkner, Capote, and O'Connor. This book is away ahead of its time when written and is as relevant today as any contemporary work out there. It's story telling at its best. Get the book!

Example of why an editor is essential to an author
Revisado: 01-03-21
The author obviously had a perfect score on the verbal section of his SATs. The book becomes more than a bit droll and tedious to listen to with his flowery dialogue. Do yourself a favor and skip this book and instead by an SAT vocabulary workbook. It contains all of the same material.
