Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

Really Enjoyed It
Revisado: 09-29-24
Wow I loved it even more than I thought O would. I'm a bit of a horror buff so I've read/listened to a lot of stories, but this one is very unique! The perspective is so interesting and the overall story and plot is very engaging. There were some profound and thought provoking moments amidst the utter creepiness and horror too. Plus, the narration was fantastic. A really great experience.

Historia
“My Dark Itch: Confessions of a Killer Comedian” is the fictional autobiography of a stand-up comedian turned cold-blooded serial killer. This sprawling tale takes the reader on a journey from his tortured upbringing, his adventures in the entertainment world, his near-death experiences and his ultimate turn to the dark side. From the seedy shadows of basement night clubs to the dazzling brightness of fame’s spotlight, from tragedy to triumph, his life is deconstructed and examined, warts and all. Both deadly serious and at times uproariously comical, in its heart this is a tale of ...

Good Story
Revisado: 03-21-24
I liked the plot and writing style overall. It was an engaging listen that kept my attention. My only gripe with the story is the guy is a comedian, and that wasn't really obvious by the dialog. The main character wasn't exactly funny but that's not really integral to the story or my enjoyment of it. It's a good serial killer story with a complex, well-thought out main character.
My main problem is the stupid robot narration. it wasn't unlistenable per se, but you really lose something not having a human do the voice acting. A lot of idioms are lost/mispronounced, and the inflection is just wrong a lot of the time. I hate that Audible is using robot voices to avoid paying voice actors. And now most of the free books are all AI voiced. It's a shame.

Historia
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

I've read/listened to a lot of horror and this was such a refreshing change of pace. It has a really unique story line, good characters, and surprising plot. Great narration. It's worth a listen for sure.

Pretty Good
Revisado: 01-12-23
This is a very standard horror story. I've read a ton of Ambrose Ibsen's work and this is middle of the road in terms of quality and actual creepiness. It's worth a listen if you don't know what to do with your credits but it's nothing spectacular or very unique.
However, beware the narration is very lackluster. I don't know what is up with this actress but she was reading it like a book report the whole way. I made it through but it is a little distracting the way her cadence is.

Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Great Narraration!
Revisado: 11-16-22
This is one of my favorite classics, and the story is as always romantic and piquant.
But the main thing here is the narration! By far the best performance I've ever heard of this novel, and I've heard quite a few. The narrator is so talented with different accents and voices you forget it's just one person reading. The emotion and inflection is spot on in a way that really captures and elevates the characters. Truly one of the best-read audiobooks I've ever heard.

Good Read!
Revisado: 07-15-22
I love this series. I was immediately taken in by the characters, especially Cass, to the point where I binged the series in less than a month. I recommend starting with the first book, Generation Loss, if you're considering reading this one. The series is compelling, entertaining, gripping, and more than a touch unsettling at times. I love Elizabeth Hand's writing and story telling abilities, especially when it comes to unique characters and grim settings.
That said, I think this is the weakest book in the series. Not to say I didn't like it. There were great plot points, but it seemed like this romace/obsession going on really eclipsed what I liked most about Cass, which was her independence, and took a forefront that gave it a very different flavor from even the previous book. There is clear character development with Cass, to Ms. Hand's credit, but it was a little unsatisfying the way it all ended, even though I'm sure some may disagree because it was kind of "And everything got better," ending.
11/10 For narration! simply stunning performance across 4 books!

Loved it!
Revisado: 06-20-22
I loved this work. It's a great story, very unique in both content and the way it is told. I was gripped. The characters are engaging and fully fleshed. The whole thing is just slightly unsettling. There's classic horror tropes but it's not exactly terrifying. But that's fine. Honestly the book really stands on its own two feet. It's 100 percent worth a listen. I'll be checking out more of the author's works. Very entertaining. The production was immaculate as far as the audio is concerned and every voice actor was great.

A vicious 15-year-old droog is the central character of this 1963 classic, a frightening fable about good and evil, and the meaning of human freedom. In Anthony Burgess' nightmare vision of the future, where the criminals take over after dark, the story is told by the central character, Alex, who talks in a brutal invented slang that brilliantly renders his and his friends' social pathology.
