Historia
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one renowned scientist, in his famous bowtie, appeared daily on major news networks such as MSNBC, NPR, the BBC, and others. Dr. Peter J. Hotez often went without sleep, working around the clock to develop a nonprofit COVID-19 vaccine and to keep the public informed. During that time, he was one of the most trusted voices on the pandemic and was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his selfless work. He also became one of the main targets of anti-science rhetoric that gained traction through conservative news media.

Support for Scientists
Revisado: 03-16-25
There’s a battle going on for our minds. It appeals to me because of my nursing background and continual interest in scientific discoveries benefiting mankind. I don’t want humanity to be plunged into the Dark Ages and am deeply concerned that is the direction this nation is headed and will drag others down with it. Start early, with Science Education, but don’t forget to train children to have a social conscience. I read the story of Balto and the Diphtheria outbreak in Alaska to my children. If you just teach them science, there is a huge risk that they will grow up to be clever devils, like the leader of DOGE.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Historia
In this alternate history of the American frontier and the Jacksonian era, a small change takes place in the Battle of the Horseshoe Bend during the War of 1812. What results is a cascade of new developments that becomes an avalanche. In our world, Ensign Sam Houston, just turned 21, led the charge on the creek barricade in that battle and almost died from a terrible wound that took him a year to recover from. In this world, his wound is minor, so he is able to continue fighting the British—and develop his close relationship with Andrew Jackson much sooner.

It is just a story, but it is well written and performed. Let it be known that this is not a historical account of the true events. It is for entertainment.

Historia
November 1958: the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Into the rarefied atmosphere of wealth and tradition comes the most unlikely of horses - a drab white former plow horse named Snowman - and his rider, Harry de Leyer. They were the longest of all longshots - and their win was the stuff of legend.

Inspiring and Heartwarming
Revisado: 09-03-24
Loved it. It is the right combination of history, filled with life lessons and heartwarming story telling.
This book calmed me and made me wish I could have patted the great horse’s muzzle. I wish we had more compassion, love and positive interactions with animals. Maybe society would be less neurotic. Harry deLeyer is a role model for all times. It is a good listen.

Historia
For centuries, works of art have been stolen in countless ways from all over the world, but no one has been quite as successful at it as the master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Carrying out more than two hundred heists over nearly eight years—in museums and cathedrals all over Europe—Breitwieser, along with his girlfriend who worked as his lookout, stole more than three hundred objects, until it all fell apart in spectacular fashion.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Enjoyed this story
Revisado: 10-21-23
Although predictable, and I had a hard time getting into the story, at first, I loved the octopus and he drew me in. The humans become likable as the story progresses. The story brought back memories of seeing an octopus for the first time, interacting with a diver, at an aquarium at the harbour front, when I lived in Victoria B.C.. My kids liked it but I was instantly in love with the creatures!

Historia
The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the night of April 14, and 1,500 people died in the freezing waters as the ship met her watery grave. Spectacular in many ways, it's a story that has spurred legends and still sends shivers down the spine a century later. This minute-by-minute account of the sinking is based on over 20 years of research and offers amazing detail of that fateful night.

Learn and listen to an account of history. I enjoyed the way it was read. The book brought up interesting questions and facts. Very sad piece of nautical history.
