I thought this book was the best mix of science fiction fun. I laughed a lot and never got bored. The narrator is superb…one of my favorites. I looked for other books narrated by R.C.Bray after finishing The Martian and am so glad to have discovered this series. If you enjoyed The Martian…well, this is completely different but also very good.

Footnotes annoy

I love Harry Potter so of course I liked this book. I recommend to anybody to put up with mediocre narration and super annoying footnotes read about throughout the book. They are entirely distracting and nearly ruined the experience…for me, at least. Maybe they are required in this time of text or maybe it’s a choice by the author but having footnotes present at the bottom of the page on a book is a lot different than being forced to listen to them as they are read aloud character by character.

This book was so heartfelt and funny. I finished this book in 2 days and now I am so sad that it’s over. I hope Patrick writes more books.

So so bad...LOL

I think I got this book free for some reason. It is so bad! It’s a string of cliche and stereotype. Prepers good, everybody else...every single other person is dumb dumb dumb or evil, evil, evil. The world goes to crap in about 5 minutes and of course the government is evil and just wants to take all the guns. Ugh, it’s just so so bad!!! It was an easy listen, though and it made me laugh few times with its badness. The narrator does a great job. I looked ahead and can’t believe there are like 10 more of these books. Hilarious! Maybe I’ll come back and listen to another one later...but I doubt it.

A really good book

I went into this book blind based on recommendation from my wife. I was immediately swept away in landscape and story. I found this to be a thoroughly satisfying albeit sometimes difficult and very frustrating story. It mixes good with bad brilliantly. I also loved the Alaskan backdrop.

I wanted to love this book but...

I’m not even sure why I did not love it. I thought it was okay but had a hard time getting through it. Things jumped around too much for me and explanations were lacking. Maybe I needed to pay closer attention or maybe this is better to read but I didn’t know who was who or what was what. I liked the Shadow character a lot and that kept me going but something was just off for me.
