This is a decent book, but the narrator grates when speaking the female voice. it would be better if they had two narrators.
The story is interesting, but slow to develop. It was good enough to listen to the next book, but I probably won't read it a second time. There is a background relationship that has a cliffhanger.

This was a great, fun listen. I laughed out loud more than once. The characters are quirky and well developed. The developing romance between Riley and Edison is sweet and pretty low on the steam scale. The developing friendships with Riley, Alice and Caroline are just a central to the story. It's a paranormal story with fated friends and a romance on the side instead of the reverse which is more common. Discovering their magic, how to use it, managing a house of ghosts that aren't always good roommates and a mysterious nemesis make for an engaging story.

great story

The characters and world building are strong. Both narrators do an amazing job. It's wonderful to have a 40 year old main character that isn't a caricature. There's a fated mate bond that just faces real issues and isn't used as an excuse for the characters to behave badly. No one is perfect and no one is a villain. they make understandable mistakes and have to work to fix them.

an enjoyable read

It's a great book. The narrator does a great job. The only way to improve it would be to have a male narrator. The story is unique and has a great twist. I've listened to it twice and still enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.

Good book, passable narrator

The book itself is amazing and one of my favorites. The world is very creative, as are the species and cultures. The magic system is complex and well thought out. The characters are strong and you wish you could meet them. You are just as interested in the interpersonal relationships as you are the over arching story.

The narrator is not so great. He has a good voice and great potential, but his inflection often falls flat or is inappropriate to the story. His pronunciation isn't always good.

A warning though, the story does have a lot of violence, domestic type abuse and violence against children, including molestation.

I love this series!

it's raw, dark, gritty and violent. The characters are well developed and draw you in. Vocal performance is amazing.

Amazing!

Finishing this series left me feeling bereft because it was just so good. It's hard to move on and not feel like so many other books are just lacking and unsatisfying in comparison. I'm definitely going to come back to this series again and again. It's not perfect. Sometimes the author gets a bit disorganized and chaotic, but it is still amazing. And the narrators just kill it.

the worst of the series
